Rock Village, Sunday Morning

Nov 01, 2009 15:14

After an exciting day back home yesterday - which had ended in Dax pitching a fit and ranting all through dinner, much to Jak's amusement - Jak was ready and packed for the second part of their trip. He'd thought about going the long way, through Fire Canyon, which would've been cool. Maybe on the way back, though. Right now, he just wanted to get ( Read more... )

Couple of months, Jak said, with a light shrug, padding out of the hut towards the cliffs leading down.

Like that, he replied, grinning.

With a nudge of his foot, the motor sprang to life, and the zoomer picked up speed, climbing up the incline of golden tech until they hit the green plateau above.

It was all gleaming gold and lush green up there; if Dinah wanted to know what Precursor ruins looked like, well, now she knew.

Dinah hung on tight, which was a good thing, as she kept craning her neck around to look at the alien stones and buildings, the tropical rainforest growing in and among the ruins, and the vistas of blue beyond them. "Wow," she whispered, leaning into Jak, staring around them and trying to see everything at once. This is amazing!

Jak grinned. Want to bust the racing track, or have a look around first?

It's a good thing she doesn't have to shout to be heard, at this speed and altitude. Look around! Then totally bust the track!

Okay!

He kicked the zoomer into action, forcing it to shoot across a plane of water, then bump up onto a large Percursor artifact, hurtling them onto a higher platform. I haven't been here in months!

Dinah wrapped one arm tighter around him, reaching out with the other toward the water, the artifact, toward anything within fingertip-reach, and sent back, God how can you not be here all the time? It's so cool! It's gorgeous and thrilling and dangerous and mysterious and eeeeee faster!

Samos kind of sent me away, Jak pointed out, but his blood was boiling with manic energy right now. He gave the wheel a twist, sending them soaring past a green eco vent that lit him up for a long moment, past a flower.

He needs to lighten uuuuuuuuup-- Dinah gulped and grabbed at Jak as the green eco lit up the zoomer, feeling the warm thrill there again, then gave a soundless 'ohhhh' at the flower as they passed it. She lay her head down on Jak's back, glee pushing her beyond mental speech into just awesome! territory again.

He grinned broad, his hair twisting with the wind, taking a very, veryshort turn up a tall ramp, maneuvering towards a gap, then yanked on the steering wheel, sending them soaring until they hit the platform on the other side.

He does! Jak shot back, once he was done showing off. You want a try?

Hold on!

He pulled the zoomer over onto ground floor, braking hard to get it to stop before he threw himself off. What? No better way to make space for her to take the wheel.

Dinah immediately slid forward, hands on the handle bars, vibrating along with the motor and nearly ready to bounce out of her skin with delight. She checked over her shoulder on Jak. "Gears here? Power here? Brakes... right here?"

Jak... was busy getting on the back of the zoomer, a position he wasn't really used to. He snagged Dinah's sides to communicate his knowledge of how to operate it, basic as it was, through images rather than words. Yep, yes, yeah, and that would be what you used to launch it upwards, kind of like jumping...

This was so totally a good idea.

That would be another little jump right there at being hugged from behind, then a blush Jak hopefully wouldn't see as Dinah leaned back into him, took a deep breath to steady herself, and tightened her legs, then leapt upward.

"Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Whoa!

Sudden take-off was sudden! Jak gripped Dinah a little tighter. Right! Uh... just try it in a straight line down to that arch.
