Toru’s Fashion {Show}

One of the things I liked about ‘Majo Saiban’ was the many times Toru got to change outfits.

Compared to to the ‘Maou’ drama, there was definitely a lot more outfits. I guess I got a little case of ‘clothes envy’ when watching Korean ‘Ma Wang’, and saw that even the detective on a big case could still change his clothes a little more. >< Ok, but I realized shorter series like doramas may not need extensive wardrobe as Hong Kong, Taiwan or Korean drama (which got to fulfill 20+ episodes).

So, what a surprise and delight to notice with each episode that Toru changed into (or a mixture of) something new, and then changed again, again, again, again, and again! The ‘designer’ trait written in surely decided that it was to be a fashion show too.

Note: Toru also has a white version with ‘THINK TWICE’ written in black.
In Episode One, the self-proclaimed designer turns up to jury duty in one of his own creations, the ‘THINK TWICE’ t-shirt. What started with one t-shirt; revealed later on to come in different colours to play a part of Toru’s fashion, ended up becoming a bit of a Toma icon. I’m sure majority of fans loved the ‘THINK TWICE’ t-shirt. It’s such a simple concept that’s worked into the character and the storyline (slogan anyone?), and raise a little fanfare. /(’o’)/

My favourite ‘THINK TWICE’ t-shirt colour would still be the orange. White words on orange. - I’ll wear that. ('_'}b

Toru didn't have to work (during the trial) or was a student, and so he didn't have a set uniform that he had to re-wear during the show. This freedom increased the variety of clothes he had, in different styles and in such a range of colours. Some looks were a instant love, and some grew on me over each perusal. I compiled a list of my favourite ten outfits of Toru. (Forgive my use of un-fashionable lay terms. I’m just a normal everywoman.)

MY TOP TEN

#10 : Sunshine Bright

Such a bright yellow! I’m not sure if many could pull it off (maybe I’m thinking in real life. Anything is possible in dramaland). The brightness of the yellow works well with a simple white tee inside, and jeans. The extra stripes on the shoulder and the sleeve adds a extra touch. The outdoor scenes reminds me Toma is sunshine!

#9 : Iconic Mr Orange

This is the first time we see Toru in the series, and it's the iconic character look that sets the impression. The tee is bright and colourful, and the denim overshirt is interesting with it's patchy patterns. This is Orenji-san, how could it not be memorable.
*

#8 : Ready-for-Action Wear

An earlier shot showed Toru contemplating in his room wearing a bright fluro yellow singlet and jeans. Later the full outfit revealed a extra cool-looking blue jacket. Zipping up quarter of the jacket still showed off enough fluro yellow to match his showlaces - and beside keeping to his stylish image, I felt he was totally outfitted for his 'stalking mission' that day. For stealth, for running, for escaping and possibly even fighting ...Toru was ready for action.

#7 : Colour Division

The simplicity of the light jacket over his yellow THINK TWICE t-shirt is what I like about this. But it is also how the colours comes about with the division of the jacket (in the white, blue and red) and the yellow in the middle. Colours is really the 'thing' for Toru...haven't seen him in black...

#6 : Stripey Stripes

Solid brown boots, cargo pants and a stripey shirt. Unusual for me, but I do like this ensemble, and kept coming back to this while I was ranking faves. On a closer look, the shirt is in that coarse thick material, and if not for the bold-hearted, the colours and pattern could double for a pyjama top. But Toru pulls it off so nicely. Especially, in the daylight scenes, I find the strong yet subdue colours frames his shoulders and give light all around his hair and face.
*

#5 : Checkered & Sparkles

I loved this checkered shirt! The red colour is strong yet not bold, with some extra visual details coming from the gemstones sown across the top. The cargo goes well with this outfit (I like this more than paired the stripey shirt one). I find he was looking quite rugged here in this gear, especially in the full length view...(the gemstones are probably a bit sparkly in close up view...hehehe)

#4 : Home Comforts

It probably was the way his frizzy hair was pushed back that caught my eyes first, but how could you miss his home wear. He seems comfy yet still with the touch of Toru style. I loved the colours and make-up of his cardie. And does look so comfy!

#3 : Raise The Green Collar

The green just struck out at me. I loved how the simple yet bright green highlighted against his light coloured hair. And I liked the way the collar rose high sometimes, creating an extra stylish effect, especially in those high camera shots.
*

#2 : Red Ready For Style

Ah, gotta love the red cardigan - it's so striking! And the whole layering effect looks great; the cardi, over the vest over the tee. And the great scarf to top it off. What a stylish little number. I just love it in every different angle.
*

#1 : The Jacket
While I was deciding on the rankings, I kept tossing over a few, and realised the pattern. It was the jacket - the khaki coloured jacket. I think the look and the cut of it looks really good on Toru. And so I grouped it all here for my number one ranking.

When he first wore it in Episode 3, it was a new outfit and an addition with a scarf. I thought he looked stylish and the yellow worked well with the green. And, again, how I like his look at the restaurant scenes, where the camera showed lots of half shots.

I guess, it must be my most favorite combo is when he was at the crime scene. The khakai jacket over the orange THINK TWICE tee and jeans. It's a winner for me. ^_^

There were more I liked and wanted to comment on too. It became a bit hard to decide the list. But if I kept adding more, I'll probably end up ranking most of the them. Top Ten sounds nice and rounded. Special mention to the almost-Grease moment in Episode 6. I couldn't really include in my Top Ten, as it was out-of-character for Toru, but I liked it so much because not only did Toma still looked good, it almost like a a internal thing just for Toma fans. LOL.

All the outfits/looks from Majo Saiban.

Wonder what are some of the fans' favourite Toru outfits/looks from the series? You can see everything he wore from the above picture. Don't have to pick from my top 10.
