But the catch 22 is I love things that money can give me.

Hang in there hun! Things will improve!

i've got a jar of spare change that i'm determined to save for events that will one day finally come, and it's all i can do to have hope that i won't end up drowning in debt without dipping into my rainy day jar.

Rule 1. Every single day, all pocket change gets emptied into the box.
Rule 2. Money doesn't come out of the box unless it's to fulfill a dream.
I've been hopelessly broke before and, even now, just manage to scrape by a lot of the time. One very important thing that isn't tied to money is hope. For me, my little dream box offers that. Even in the worst times I can look at that and know I have something, know that I won't ever stop investing in my dreams.
Hang onto the contents in that jar and keep believing in your dreams, and you'll be okay.
