WoohoO! :D

Augh!! You are so RIGHT about the Lupin/Tonks relationship! I always wondered why I couldn't get into it and love it. :/

What about...Anya/Dimitrius! or...Mr and Mrs Incredible. haha! uh...all the Disney couples I guess. < _

In Blood and Chocolate Vivian said those things about herself because she knew she was gorgeous. She grew up thinking she was a Princess because she WAS a Princess. All of the boys in her pack wanted her because she was beautiful and they told her she was too good for the humans. She was pretty full of herself, but in a way that seemed fragile to me, like she was telling herself she was so that she would believe it.

But I think what bothers me the most is the dependency.

This may seem shallow but:

Teenage Girl + First Boyfriend = The total disregard for self independence and just letting this guy absorb her entirely. She almost ceases to exist. She just becomes Edward's...love...sick slave puppy thing. And also the relationship just seems so one sided to me. Like she wants it more than he does.

I had to quote you for the end, because you said it best.

The author is currently writing Twilight from Edward's point of view -- I think she'll name it Midnight Sun, or something like that -- and the first chapter is already available on da webz. It's in her website. Have you read it?

Because honestly, I don't really get it either. Have you read the sequels? New Moon and Eclipse? Perhaps you'll see a clearer view after reading those.

I've read all three books and the chapter of Midnight Sun but I still don't understand. New Moon and Eclipse just further confuses me.

I agree with you entirely. In fact, those are my two main problems with the book. Stephenie explained, on the subject of every boy wanting to be with Bella, that it was somewhat autobiographical, when she went from a huge high school to a small college and girls were scarce and new girls were just that much more exciting. Which kind of makes sense, I guess.

I've read the first chapter of Midnight Sun (or bits of it, on Stephenie's website again) and in the beginning, Edward doesn't even understand why everyone's making such a fuss over her. He's like, meh, just another ordinary new girl. So hopefully his side will be more reasonable. A little.

But oh, man. If you hate her dependency, you're not going to like New Moon.

Think of it like Elfquest. I'm convinced that's where Stephanie Meyer got her idea for this whole attraction thing.

Edward "recognised" Bella. He can't resist it, nor can she. You can't resist recognition and unfortunately for Jacob, you can't force it on someone without the help of someone more powerful (Like how Leetah had to help Redlance and Nightfall conceive a child).

There are lovemates and there are lifemates. Sometimes one comes before the other sometimes lovemates never develop into lifemates.

But I've always seen it exactly like Elfquest.

mmmm...yeah I can understand it from that point of view...but I'm operating under Canon law and they didn't say vampires imprint. Sometimes they have a blood that "sings" for them...but is that enough to sustain a relationship for eternity? When she becomes a vamp she's not gonna have blood.

It might sustain the relationship. The Vampires do imprint in a way.... Just not like how the wolves do it. Look at the relationships between Alice and Jasper... and Rosalie and Emmett.
