This story is something I stumbled upon thanks to a friend of mine. The One Piece fandom has its fair share of Sues of all kinds, not to mention self-insert Sues in droves. I guess the opportunity to kick ass and have superpowers is very tempting.
Anyway… This is the story of a self-insert Sue, who gets transported into the One Piece world by her fanfic-writing brother, who has magic powers that allows him to somehow transport his sister into a fictional universe. Interestingly enough, the creator of the self-insert is not the person who writes the story. Instead, it's written by three of her friends, and the story was apparently inspired by a dream she had. She has admitted that the Fuu in this story is really her. (Small edit: Rumors actually go around that Fuu is the one writing this, but I have no way to confirm this, and I'm not even convinced that the rumors hold any water myself yet.)
Apparently, this person has no part in the writing of the story, except that the three authors contact her to ask “What would you do/say in this situation?” Sounds like a great setup for a story, right?
Note: The third “chapter” of this story is called “Japanese lexique”, and is just:
- A list of the Japanese words used in the story, and their translations. This one alone made me cringe because I know what to expect.
- A list of name-suffixes and a very strange way to show the level of politeness and closeness each suffix represents.
- A pretty complete list of Ace, Zoro, Sanji, and Luffy’s attacks in kanji, romanized Japanese, the English translations, and then a short description of each move plus what it’s called in the American translation and various dubs. I’m not going to touch that “chapter”, because there’s nothing there to point out other than the incredibly annoying use of Japanese in places where an English phrase would work much better.
The fanfic is written by TenshiNoFuu, and I'm just here to point out why this story is not good.
