It might not have been anything they would have done on the Upper East Side, but somehow, Serena felt like the little party they'd assembled was exactly perfect. Since they were celebrating Eric's sixteenth, she wouldn't have settled for anything less. The Winchester seemed like just the right place for a cozy, intimate gathering, small not for the ( Read more... )

For once, Roger arrived early.

It wasn't the apocalypse, nor was it any kind of statement it just kind of... happened. The outfit had been easy enough to put together, his hair did whatever the fuck it wanted to, anyway, and eyeliner was just easy.

Whatever, Eric was bound to appreciate it. And Serena and Neil had both asked so nicely. So there Roger was, guitar on his back and a water in hand.

Wandering over, Serena slung an arm over Roger's shoulder in a sideways hug, grinning.

"Hey," she said, "thank you again for coming and helping me out." Roger was more friend than entertainment anyway, which was just right for the mood of the evening, intended to be warm and casual.

Roger kissed her cheek as was his customary greeting, tailored only to Serena. Her boyfriend was running around there somewhere, and he had every intention of finally introducing himself after the set. He'd have the most confidence then, and maybe even apologize for not introducing himself sooner.

"It wasn't you, really," Roger said, flipping his hair with a feigned arrogance that sometimes wasn't feigned at all. "It was Neil. His hair is just so pretty. I was thinking about proposing to him..."

"Ah," Serena said, nodding in mock-comprehension, "yes, of course. You might have a little competition, but who could really resist?" Grinning, she reached up to tap the guitar pick she wore on a cord, chosen tonight in honor of Roger's playing. "I know I never could."

Serena hadn't been the kind to organize parties at home, mostly because there had always been someone better to do it and something better to do. Putting this one together, she'd found, hadn't been nearly as difficult as their bigger affairs (although Blair usually handled the heavy details for those), but she'd paid closer attention to detail. For her brother, she wanted everything to be just right.

In a white silk Roberto Cavalli with a floral design, she fluttered around, eating pizza and talking to everyone. Once the party had started, she stopped bothering to worry at all.

It was a bit of a relief to see him looking brighter. Serena brightened automatically as he came over. "Hi, Roxas," she said warmly, "thank you. I'm just really glad Eric seems to agree." It just seemed more like the right kind of party for her brother.

He was actually kind of proud that the party had ended up at the Winchester. A good idea of Nate's. It happened, but not all the time. And it looked like it would all turn out well.

Nate felt a little naked without a good present to give, but he knew Eric would care the least out of any friends he had. He hadn't dressed to the nines, but he was more than acceptable in a nice shirt and clean dark jeans. He was a little worried-- well, what would happen if Vanessa showed up? But now wasn't the time to worry about it.

"Lurk much?" Vanessa said, approaching him. He'd looked so odd standing by himself off to the side.

If Kate was here it probably wasn't the best idea to approach Nate, but Vanessa was not going to let herself be pushed around. Kate would have to deal with the fact she was going to be Nate's friend.

Okay, maybe he wouldn't have to worry because Vanessa was here. Kind of hard to worry about something when it was actually happening. Then it was something else.

He still had a smile for Vanessa though, because he was genuinely happy to see her. Maybe something would happen, maybe it wouldn't, but she was still his friend. "Not much," Nate said. "Someone always finds me."

"Case in point, me," Vanessa smiled. "Hey, I got news for you. I have a hut. And it's in no danger of falilng down anytime soon, how about that?" She didn't think she'd ever stop being amused at Nate's flimsy hut, even if she understood why he loved it so much.

Jenny hadn't dressed up too much for the party, more than pleased with the idea to have the party here. A smaller, more intimate gathering really was perfect for this, enough to have her almost a little envious, though she'd never have admitted it. This was Eric's party, and it deserved to be the best that they could give.

She showed up with Jason at her side, dressed not too fancy in a short dress she'd made for herself, and went immediately for pizza and a drink before she began making her rounds to greet people. The available food only made this even better, in her opinion.

"Oh, hi," Jenny replied instinctively, a little surprised, but pleased all the same. She had been meaning to officially meet Eric's boyfriend for a while, and just never gotten around to it. It seemed as good a time as any to fix that. "You're Roxas, right? I'm Jenny."

"You look like you feel as out of place as I do," Vanessa said, approaching him with a drink in her hand. "I'm guessing you're one of the few people here who don't come from the Upper East Side?"

"Vanessa," she added. "I feel like I'm from a whole different world sometimes, even though Brooklyn's right across the river."

"So that's your connection to these guys?" Vanessa asked, leaning back against the counter next to Roxas. "Eric?"
