Just read the most bizarre blog post at Design Sponge. Seems people whose books are not neatly arranged on hardwood bookcases are likely to be mentally disordered

What an asinine thing to say! I do hate these designers who are so up their own backside. You are right: they see books as purely decoration. How pathetic.

I think your home is lovely (and nephew looks like a sweetie). It is inviting, homey and welcoming - not like these sterile, bloodless showhomes used as examples of 'designer living'.

She really needs to see that article about famous people and their libraries. Keith Richards has stacks of books all over the place--because he reads them. Don't recall seeing a pot of piss in any of the photos of his house, you know? An overly neat bookcase is a tell-tale sign that one does not actually use the books--and hence, a sign of a very incurious and inactive mind.
