i love historical food, so those channels sound right up my alley. also the bread guy. i keep saying i want to make bread, and i keep... not actually doing it.

isn't that teapot fantastic? such ingenuity! and style!

What a gorgeous piece that teapot is! I had to know more, and it turns out it's a contemporary piece of art by Yossi Swed, an Israeli artist who is still making incredible items like it... for those lucky enough to be able to afford it. PopChassid also found pictures of a newer version of the teapot in all silver.

on the one hand, bummer that the story about the teapot isn't true. but on the other, the artist's other stuff is super cool.

If you don't mind vegan cooking, I used to really enjoy watching Caitlin Shoemaker (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0cxMY7jZ_kiE2bvykJffZA) before I had to cut carbs??? I can't say I ever made anything of hers, but everything always looked really delicious. Now I mostly enjoy the more ASMR-style cooking channels for relaxation & vicarious living, like Cooking Tree (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtby6rJtBGgUm-2oD_E7bzw) or Jaconde's (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6cH7oaIvWYa_0iATEEynDQ). Well and of course Babish, but like… obvs. I also second the recommendation for Tasting History though, freaking LOVE that show ( ... )

the cooking tree is so soothing. i don't know if i could make anything, but just watching the videos is immensely calming.

carrot pickles are SUPER EASY. there's no canning or anything. you just boil water, vinegar, sugar, mustard seeds, salt, and peppercorns, and then pour it over the carrots and wait for it to cool before sticking it in the fridge. i ate the pickles in a few days, and then cut up some celery and put that in the leftover pickling juice and ate that in a few days.

Cooking Tree is sooooooooooooo good, my mother really likes to take naps to that one. (She also really like's to nap to Nail Career Education? Sometimes she'll say "can you put on Suzie?" specifically so she can nap. Which is almost kind of confusing, cuz my sister's name is also Suzie…)

I DON'T KNOW WHY IT MAKES ME NERVOUS! Like yogurt might actually be harder, since that's a warm fermentation! I'd definitely have to consider a workaround for the sugar, though. Hmm. Might need to go obsessively look up recipes for awhile, that sometimes pushes me over the experimentation edge!

i'm amused as hell that your mom naps to food videos, but having seen some of them i understand why.

make pickles! doooo eeeet. there are tons of recipes out there just waiting for you. :D not sure what you could use as a sugar substitute, but i'm sure there's something. and honestly, i'd be more nervous about making yogurt.
