first, my laptop works again! i took it back to the apple store yesterday and a different genius looked at it, got it to display a whole lot of code, saw the "too many corpses being created" error message (yes, really, that's what it said - coders having some fun), figured out the problem, and fixed it. OH MY GOD I AM SO RELIEVED. i need to back

kind of? i don't tend to submit my nanonovels because they're just so bad, but one of the other women in the group is submitting an old one of hers. whether our critiques are helping her or not, i have no idea.

A lot of operating systems don't create 'corpses,' but they do create zombies/orphans.

Basically, they launch tasks and then the tasks become inaccessible for some reason and don't die... but can no longer be killed. :O This is more of a run-time problem, though.

I'm glad you reclaimed your computer, especially with the NaNo deadline hanging right over you. And you made it!
