oh what a day! what a lovely day!

thank you, scotus, for legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide.

It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in ( Read more... )

\o/ I would've missed the glorious news if it wasn't for F-list posting :D

WHAT A DAY! WHAT A LOVELY DAY!

Also, OMG, it gets better. I didn't know about California mandating vaccination. You go. Cali, go all the way and mandate it! I, too, have strong feelings on the subject.

i was sitting at reception today and it was all over cnn. and then it was all over twitter. and then it was still all over cnn!

SO EXCITING.

the governor hadn't signed anything when that article was posted, but it sounded like he will. and all those "but i'm going to protect my children from viruses with healthy clean food" parents can learn to homeschool. i will never understand how otherwise intelligent adults can so willfully ignore decades of incontrovertible scientific data.

But it's naaaatural. Natural is good! See, people lived without all the vaccines and medicines just fine. Except they were all dead by 40, but never mind that. People like that irritate me so fucking much. They live in a nice, clean country and take it for granted. The plague in New Mexico is waiting for them! :D

I just wish it was the $20, not the $10. Andrew Jackson deserves to be replaced. My boy Alexander Hamilton does not.

i thought it was the twenty at first too! maybe it was originally and someone changed their mind?

I think everyone wanted the $20 to change because Andrew Jackson is such a heinous individual, especially for us to have on our most common currency.

I'm so ridiculously excited about the SCOTUS ruling, I've been reblogging rainbows and squee all day on tumblr. (The best are the pictures of the people getting married. So many happy people and some of them waited SO VERY LONG).

I hadn't heard that about California, but GOOD FOR THEM. My cousin's kid has a badly compromised immune system due to cancer treatment and hasn't been able to get most of their shots as a result and my cousin's been so worried about the degrading abilities of herd immunity. (They're in NY not CA but still, where one state goes usually others will follow)

i spent too much time keeping up with twitter to tumbl! a tv station in atlanta had a live broadcast of the marriages in some government building, so i watched that for a little bit and got to see some people get married. it was pretty exciting. two of the couples even had kids.

your cousin's kid is one of the reasons vaccinations should be mandatory.

SO happy about the same-sex marriage decision (finally!), and also pleased that the mandatory vaccine bill is on the verge of being passed here. There are people talking about charter schools/homeschooling for the unvaccinated, but the thing is... those kids still go out in public, so I don't feel a lot happier about that idea. They're still dangerous to the people who can NOT be vaccinated.

The CNN conservative correspondent reminds me of the Mormon Church offshoot back in Prop 8 days that supported a "No" vote on the issue. They were not in favor of homosexuality (still clinging to that part of their church's teachings), but could not see legalized marrige as anything other than important and necessary for gay spouses and any children a gay couple might have. Plus, reinforcement of emotional union and stability. That's good for society as well as the individuals involved in the relationship.

Boy, I hope Scalia retires soon. Preferably while Obama is still in office...

it's so exciting! imagine the very small children who will grow up in this world. they won't know a time when they couldn't marry the person of their choice, regardless of who that person is.

apparently a majority of young conservatives support same-sex marriage. the cnn correspondent sounded like she really has zero problem with people being gay. she definitely supported their right to marry. i'd never heard that about the mormons.

scalia cannot leave soon enough. i just hope he goes before ruth bader ginsburg.
