oh it's raining, oh what a surprise

Jul 07, 2009 17:22

it was storming in biblical fashion out here not so long ago and has now tapered back to just rain. somehow the fact that it's been either cloudy or rainy all day does not surprise me. the weather is making me short-tempered and impatient and cranky, and the temptation to free my inner bitch is sometimes really strong. (more so than usual, ( Read more... )

Okay, what do you need to know about Harrow & Highgate before you can comfortably write something about them?

actually i think i know enough about them, and what i don't know i'll probably figure out as i'm talking. it's all the stupid historical stories where i don't actually know the history.

Man, that is *always* a hindrance, and I feel your pain. Maybe have a bit of a dabble in writing them as modern AUs until you get into a writing stride?

that's not a bad idea, but the random historical plot bunnies are too rooted in their timeframes to work as au's. like, the bootlegging brothers don't exist except during prohibition. and one of them goes on to race stock cars during the very early days of nascar, but still, his story is entirely dependent on stuff that happened in the 20s and 30s, and i'd be telling a different story if i shifted the family forward a bunch of years. on the plus side, the research should be fun.

I left a couple of windows open, too, and one of the windowsills was moderately wet, but the other was dry.

I wish I could do research for you and download it straight into your brain - research is fun, and it would make me feel better about barely writing any words myself.

i kinda like research, actually, i'm just too lazy to do it. but i'm also enough of a perfectionist that i don't want to write something that's historically inaccurate. it's a quandary.

but! if you could magically download what i need to know into my brain, i wouldn't say no. :D
