File 03 - Intermission

Aug 25, 2009 16:31

I've returned to the estate. Grampa was pleased with the results of my investigation. We spent some time reminiscing together. I wish I could tell him about this community, but I don't think he'd believe me, even if I did. Best to be discreet about the time I spend here ( Read more... )

The Amagi Inn-? I hope Amagi is all right... That can't be something she wants to be near.

I hope you don't need to become involved. The sooner the culprit is found and brought to justice, the better.

I hope so, too. This incident, if handled incorrectly, could really hurt the inn's reputation.

I appreciate your concern, but if I'm called upon to aid in this investigation, I won't hesitate to respond. This is what I live for: to bring criminals to justice.

I see... If it comes to that, I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you, Issei-san.

Still, I'm worried about Yukiko-san and the inn's staff. Being witness to such a traumatic event can have lasting psychological effects on some people.

You sounds a lot like me when I first joined this place Naoto-san.

Really? Hm, well, I suppose we detectives spend more time at our work than we should.

Have you made a lot of friends since joining this community, Hakuba-san?

Indeed, sometimes it's all we can think about.

More than I expected, I was never good making friends.

Oh, I know the feeling quite well. Some of my colleges accuse me of obsession; I like to think I'm just very dedicated to my work.

Neither was I. I'm... actually hoping to make up for lost time. Maybe it's not too late for me to form lasting friendships with good people...

It's a strange case. It's hard to know where to begin. But I'm sure Dojima-san and I will clear things up with enough hard work!

Indeed. Hanging the body from a television antenna... Is it some sort of message? Perhaps it's symbolic of Ms. Yamano's work at the local news station...

I have faith in your abilities. But I was wondering if I could ask you something, Adachi-san. Not as a detective, just as a concerned citizen.

Maybe... I just have to wonder why anyone would bother going to all that effort and run the risk of being caught that way. Or even how they got it her body all the way up there.

Fire away. I'll do my best to answer.

Precisely. I thought the same thing myself. Whatever the means, the suspect is obviously trying to send some sort of message. What that message might be, I can only begin to guess.

Has there been any suspicious activity in the area lately? I haven't been to Inaba in quite some time, so I don't know about the local hearsay.

The Amagi Inn?

Yes. The very same inn where Yukiko-san works. I was shocked, as well.

I still can't believe it! Inaba's supposed to be really peaceful, that's what my Grandma always says...

That's what my Grampa has told me, as well. My family has lived in the Yasoinaba region for generations, and nothing like this has ever happened.

I take it you have acquaintances who live in the area?

My Grandma runs a tofu shop there. I'd better call her and make sure she's okay!

Yes, that would be for the best. Everyone needs to stay on their guard, especially at night. Your grandmother doesn't live alone, does she?
