Shelter Picspam Part 1

Apr 28, 2008 14:56

Shelter is a small, quiet film about a young street artist who has put his life on hold while he takes on the lions share of raising his young nephew.  I found it to be a hugely accessible story about work, duty, dreams that seem just out of reach and learning how to accept, and put your arms around, the good things in life.  I am so besotted with ( Read more... )

I thought the scene where they first kiss was very well written and acted since it was important that it made sense..

and I love the way we see how is the sister and get to know her.. she's also interesting which adds to the whole film/story. ;)

That first kiss kills me. I love how Shaun starts the kissing and then pauses for half a second to see if it's still OK and then goes back to the kissing. I also love how they didn't take it any further. The kiss was pretty powerful all on its own.

Jeanne is very interesting. I really did feel bad for her when they showed her in bed with her boyfriend and you could tell that she knew that she was playing out a dead end situation. It's hard to tell if she thinks this is just the best it's going to get for her or what?

yeah, exactly.. I think she's in a difficult situation and she's a complicated person as well.. so it was difficult to perfom her without making her mean imho.. and she does it in a way that at the and we actually care about her and can understand her. :)

She reminds me of someone who has never gotten what they wanted and so when she sees something that will do she manipulates and cajoles instead of going after it in a more direct way. (When Shaun was telling Zach in the car fight scene to take what he wants he wasn't trying to tell him to be greedy but to be direct - something I don't think Zach or Jeanne could understand at the time.) I really admired how they didn't play Zach as someone who was fooled by her but as someone who knows that he's being played but for the good of Cody he goes along with it. Very complicated dynamic between them. It was good to see them come to some kind of understanding at the end.

I think the director use to be a production designer and to my eye it shows what with all the visual cues. I had another fan point out the red wine and the way Zach's red t-shirt and trunks are showing through his other clothing in the scene where he gets revved up to go spend the night with Shaun. Speaking of visuals, I love your icons. Very beautiful and creative.

first I'd like to say I love this post and movie but I have to ask, what's with the red?

Thank you! I picked up on the color red when I watched it for a second time and noticed how Zach switches out the black marker for a red one after he talks to Shaun on the walkie-talkie. Then, when I watched it again ::grin:: I noticed how the color red begins popping up in the movie early on with Zach's red shoes, the piping on his tank top when they first go surfing and then when they're at the beach bonfire Shaun is all decked out in red. It felt like the first flashes of red were like a message that something was on the way and with red being a warm and bright color and often associated with love it seemed like love was on the way and then there's Shaun wearing it all over. I know I sound like a nut but that's how it struck me. ::shrugs:: Other people have pointed out the way Zach's red t-shirt and red trunks peek out from his hoodie and jeans right before he goes over to Shaun's house to make love and also the red wine they drink at the BBQ ( ... )

Sweetheart, you came to the right place. ::grin:: I love this movie so much I started a community (something I've never done before on my own) just to have a place to ramble and share the Shelter love. If you're interested, you might want to check out shelter_diner. It's small, but growing, and you're more than welcome both here and there.

You definitely made my day. So glad you like the picspam.

Your icons are so great. If they ever become public I know a lot of people who would pounce on you and love you forever - if you like that sort of thing. ::grin::

You're welcome to check out my Shelter Photobucket account. It's mostly the photos I used here and few extras I add to now and then.
