lol English camp is what it sounds like, Japanese kids who like learning English go to a camp for 3 days where we play English games and do English activities and they make speeches and put on skits and there are a bunch of foreign native-English-speaking teachers there and it's very fun but omg we start at 9am and finish at 8:30pm so tired

"Also, loved your hair." <- Somehow this line in the letter pleased me very much. ^^;

Wow, I was definitely not expecting that to be the story about Lyra. There are so many layers to this! :)

I thought Finnick's considerations about feeding the tributes were very interesting. (I don't think I've talked about it in any of my stories yet, but in my scheme of things, getting tributes a bit better fed was part of the gradual build up to having full-on careers in Four. It's part of the reason poor kids like Shad Atwater who didn't really aspire to volunteer came to train with Mags in the late teens/early 20s period- because she'd feed them a meal every day they had training.)

Heh, I'm pleased. I'm kind of in love with that line too. :) I thought it was very Finnick.

Those are some great ideas on Four and volunteering. I've been thinking a lot about this, too, in regards to Finnick's plans for Twelve. Though I came at it from the other direction - you can't train starving kids, they don't have the stamina, you'd have to feed them up. I love your train of thought of how that would attract poor kids.

Damn I really need to get around to reading your Mags fic!

Thank you for the comment. :) It was a lot of fun to explore Lyra a little, since having had another victor with him for a few years would have impacted on Haymitch dramatically.

I've really been enjoying this fic. The tension comes out nicely in this chapter--the disconnect between Finnick, who's planning for a long game with years worth of tributes, and Haymitch, who's horrified at the idea. I like how you rooted Haymitch's opposition in his own continuing trauma. It must have been hell for a strategist like him to spend year after year trying to bring the kids home and gradually realizing how futile it all was. I see some starry-eyed optimism in Finnick, though it's strange to call it that when his master plan for improvement amounts to "we can get more of the kids to live a few more days."

The strength of Finnick's reaction to the "I need a drink" comment really drives home the kind of stress they're both living under.

Also, I really enjoyed that brief glimpse of Katniss we got at the beginning. It's such a simple scene, and yet it captures her character in a nutshell.
