My goodness but it's smoky

The Everglades is on fire. I just confirmed that from the news but I really didn't need to as the smell of the smoke is overpowering, and I'm indoors and pretty far east - I can't even imagine what the folks who live closer west are dealing with. We're under an air advisory because of it. Tomorrow (I guess actually today) I have to go into work -

...but I didn't know the Everglades ever caught fire. I guess it seems counterintuitive to have a fire in the midst of all that water. Which just goes to show how little I know!

Marsh burns, especially with the drought we've been having. And it has a very particular smell, I remember it from my childhood, some mornings we would get up to go to school and it would be smoky haze and that burning swamp smell, there's no other fire that smells like it.

My drive was quite smoky Saturday, and again this morning. And from what I understand, again tomorrow too. Sigh.
