Pass the Syrup.

Oct 24, 2006 15:48

So the other day The fontosaurus and I were talking about the horror that is syrup. He was telling me about a pancake that can absorb up to two gallons of the horrid goop.

The trista: Syrup is vile. It is an abomination. A crime against god and nature.

The fontosaurus: Syrup is wonderful! A pancake is merely the vessel for the syrup.

The trista: Why would you defile ( Read more... )

the fontosaurus, hakuna matata biatch, syrup of life, conversations, the beauty of nature blah blah blah

Let's be clear here, before I get all New Englandy on you. Are we talking about real maple syrup, Grade A Dark Amber, boiled down that morning; or are we talking about nasty slimy artificially flavored corn syrup, purchased in a plastic bottle shaped like some horribly antiquated racial or regional stereotype?

Damn right!

Deirdra, syrup snob.

How on earth do you get good syrup in Jackson?

Ugh. Does it matter?

what do you eat on pancakes?

Butter! Perhaps jam, or perhaps a squidge of lemon juice and a little sprinkle of sugar. Mostly, though, just butter. The way pancakes were meant to be eaten.

Butter? Dear God, the colonies ... freshly squeezed lemon juice and the merest hint of sugar thank you.

Yes, butter! And then the squidge of lemon juice and the tiny sprinkle of sugar. Mmmmm.

I like syrup, but I put it far far away from the pancakes and then gently dip into it with each bite. I can't let the syrup actually reside on the pancakes because then they would get s*ggy. (Cannot even bear to type that word.)

Sometimes I suppose it is okay to make a small, isolated puddle and perhaps dip just the tiniest corner of a piece of french toast into it. But never a pancake.

Hi there!

Yes, but do you pronnounce it like: "Seer-up", "Suh-rup", or "Syr-up"?? (or just "Srup"?)

The one thing my wife and I will never be able to reconcile in our marriage is the proper pronnunciation of "syrup"

"Seer-up."

I say pronounce it "sir up." How do you pronounce it? How does she?

I like maple syrup, but if I use it - I just use a little. I mostly like buttery stuff on pancakes - or maybe peanut butter.

Ohhh, I had really good "peanut butter pancakes" a couple weeks ago. They're pancakes made with peanut butter chips in them. I had them at the same place that makes really, really good corn pancakes.

Well, that's enough from me!

Hey - is it actually a fact that a pancake can absorb 2 gallons of syrup?? Or is that hyperbole?

OMG, peanut butter! I bet that's good. I'll have to remember to try it.

I think it was actually something like two pints, but still. That is entirely too much sugar goo. Ugh.
