Everyone's a little bit racist...

Dec 17, 2010 11:43

Racists suck. But stupid racists are hilarious. Case in point: there is a conservative hate group that is actually hating on the upcoming Marvel movie Thor (our May Movie, folks!). Not because the trailer made it look like another $200M exercise in mediocrity. (True fact: at least half that budget was spent on replacing sets that Anthony Hopkins ( Read more... )

I love that there's a picture of them. I wish the organization posted all their mailing addresses so I could send them all cards that say, "Seriously? No, SERIOUSLY??"

The captions on that post continue to be A+.

I love the captions. I really wish they'd gone on to point out that one of the Warriors Three (entirely made up by Marvel even more than with what they did to Thor) is, like, Asian or something. OH NOES, THE GUY THAT MARVEL MADE UP TO BE NORSE IS ASIAN DOES NOT COMPUTE DOES NOT COMPUTE.

I love that picture of them, too. No wonder they have such hard-ons for the Nordic people. I'd want six-plus feet of Nordic man if I were a five-foot troll. I'm not, and I still want it. I still want Idris Elba, too, so maybe the solution to their racism is to be sluttish?

Clearly, they were descended from the axe-wielding berserkers whose "religion" is all they are trying to protect. As someone pointed out in comments on an article referencing the one I linked to above, a bunch of white, conservative Christians are getting awfully worked up over the representation of pagan gods in cinema...

Well, British (and German) pseudo-scientific race-fetishists have always had a hard-on for the Nordics. I guess the American branch has inherited that.

He's a deity. He's not *supposed* to look like the people who made him up: he's supposed to be something supernatural. Dark skin in a culture of blond hair, light skinned people would fit the bill.

He's not real! End of story! He's even less real than a deity because he's one as filtered through the lens of comic books!

No one has seriously prayed to or worshiped or anything else anyone like what this guy may be passingly based off of in several hundred years. I think we can stop worrying about the people in Norway/Sweden/Finland who patently couldn't give a shit.

Yup ^_^ Well that and if they are going to stand for the near opposite of my values, I should pretty much do the opposite of anything to ask of the public ^_^

Ah, this group is a descendant of the old White Citizens Council, the "respectable" anti-desegregation group (as opposed to the declasse Klan).

Wow, so they're really, really bootleg Klansmen? Why am I not surprised?

Yeah, these guys are extreme even for modern-day conservative groups. I'm sure a lot of right-wingers will denounce Idris Elba's casting as "political correctness gone amok" or something like that. But boycotting the movie? Saying it's a threat to America's "European-American heritage"? To blatant for mainstream conservatives.

I would think so. These guys make it hard for people to spout off what is actually racist talk ("political correctness gone amok" is code for "We want more white people, not less, in our movies" in this case) as if it's not, in fact, racist. Which it is.

Of course, reactionary trolls got all over the threads for the articles about this going, "Oh? How come we have to take it when you put a black guy in for a white guy, but cast all the kids as white in the Last Airbender movie and suddenly it's raaaaaacism!!!!????"

To which I rightly reply with :P
