For those of you two transitioned while on the job, at what stage in your transition did you inform your employer and, in hind sight, how did that go for you? Did it work for you or do you wish you would have done it earlier or later?
I spoke with HR and my supervisor, and then everyone in my department, right before I transitioned to living full-time. I had at that point been having facial hair removal for a year and a half, though people had been polite not to say anything (if they actually noticed). It was some time before I had the legal name change done.
It went so smoothly and was so well-accepted that I feel blessed, basically.
I transitioned while in my current job working for Wal-Mart, and have been in the same department the entire time. I am ftm. I told my supervisor and close coworkers at about the same time I started T (about 2 years into this job), and asked them to let the rest of my small department know as well and to begin using male pronouns and my chosen name or a shortened androgynous version of my then-legal name
( ... )
I work for a research hospital and I am considering soon to tell my supervisor about being transgender. I don't know when exactly I will tell him but soon. I told my co-worker that I share the room with about a month and a half ago, and he was really cool about it. Not necessarily supportive, but doesn't mind either.
