MANRY BONDING TRIP theregularguy January 8 2012, 18:09:51 UTC
This was, as far as Sokka was concerned, the best shore leave yet. Real snow, real water, real ice, real North Pole. Simply the best. So he had gotten together some of his gear from the ship (who needed that tacky synthetic stuff? Blegh!), hijacked Zuko who probably really wanted to spend his time in the lodge huddled next to the fire, and gotten a boat to go out to the islands.

With a grunt, he hauled the boat higher up the beach and away from the tide line, then looked at Zuko with a grin.

"Stop being so grumpy. This'll be fun! Besides, we're only here for one night." He stoops to pull some of his gear from the boat.

"Let's find a good place to set up camp, then we can catch some dinner."

Zuko was a little less enthusiastic about this shore leave than Sokka was. The last time he'd gone out in this kind of weather, he'd had a mission to keep his blood warm, and an icy wilderness was not his idea of a capital source of fun.

"What's fun about losing our fingers?" he grumped. Not that that was a problem for him, bundled up to the nines in protective warm gear, including a genuine Water Tribe parka with a big furry hood, which framed his scowl quite nicely.

"You're bundled up warmer than a polar wolf-bear. You're not going to lose any extremities, promise." He handed one of the packs of stuff to Zuko and began trudging across the crust of the snow, away from the mooring.

"We need to find some hard snow. Shouldn't be hard since it's properly cold enough. . ." He glanced up at the sky. "And it doesn't look like we'll get new snowfall anytime today. Good! We should hurry and get the shelter built before we lose the light."

FISHING! atadiscoverer January 8 2012, 17:35:40 UTC
There's a familiar-looking Scotsman standing with a fishing rod and a stool at one of the cast-off points on the Icefish Pier.

And this is probably the most relaxed any of you will have seen Dr. Beckett since emerging from the pods, as he casts off, before taking a seat on the stool.

"Aah, this is the life."

Zouichi settled down in a spot nearby, having rented some gear for the duration. He looked a little out of place, sitting on a pier dangling a line into the water in full body armor. But he was warm enough, and you never knew when things were going to start going wrong.

Even on shore leaves.

He nodded to Beckett. "You here for the contest?"

"Aye, but I thought I'd get a wee bit of practice in beforehand."

Beckett had went shopping prior to all of this, and had bought clothes to replace his plantsuit, topped off with his Atlantis Expedition jacket from the ship. It was mostly warm clothing, understandably.

"After being stuck in a pod, I want to make sure that I still have the touch."

Skiing?! Skiing's for fillies and grannies! Rainbow Dash has a real sport for you. It's called 'snowboarding'!

Yeah, okay, most of you know about the sport, that's fine. Still, slicing down the hill, Rainbow Dash put on a spectacle that was no less than she'd demand of herself. As it turns out, snowboarding is easier, more stylish, and more fun when you've got wings.

So she flipped over a hill, turned three somersaults in neat succession in midair, then landed lightly at the end of the course.

"Oh yeah, I've still got the touch!"

Yup, that was pretty nice, Rainbow Dash. Now see what happens with someone who can actually use the snow itself as a board. Actually, it looked like she was actually skimming it with her feet, which in fact was close to the truth: it was actually ice on the soles of her feet, and much, MUCH trickier to maneuver.

Not that it seemed to stop her. She was racing down slopes, making some excellent three sixty loops, and finishing off with a turning flip before landing right next to Rainbow Dash, her cheeks flushed but looking excited.

"Hey, its another pony!"

"I'd complain that you're not wearing a board, but that actually bothers me a lot less than the girl who can fly without wings," she said. "And I'd also say, 'hay, it's another human', but there's too many of you for that to make any sense either! So... nice skills?"

Rainbow Dash hadn't REALLY adjusted to all this quite yet, so if the compliment was kind of weak, well, forgive her.

Grocery shopping! zouichi January 8 2012, 18:13:06 UTC
Zouichi had been itching for the opportunity to get his hands on some cooking ingredients for a while now. So one of the first places he went was the shopping district. There he could be found collecting an ever growing amount of supplies. One thing he was interested in in particular was the fish market -- surely an area so close to the ocean would have an excellent catch to choose from. It was clearly time for some stews and homemade sushi and sashimi.

Running a restaurant meant that you had to keep the shelves stocked with new stuff, and right now, Mindy was making sure she did just that. Alien meat burgers were ok, but she knew that she wasn't going to get any better just cooking stuff she already knew. So she was off to get more food when she ran into a familiar face.

"Zouichi, hey!" She greeted him, looking over what he got, "Do you actually know how to cook this stuff?"

He turned, smiled a little. "Yes. I learned some cooking before I came to the ship, and I've been practicing ever since. We just don't usually get too many ingredients, is all. I thought it would be a good time to stock up." In fact, he'd probably make a couple of trips here, and make good use of Howard's roller fridge. Luckily, baking supplies like flour usually kept pretty well.

A man with a large, flopping silvery fish was in the middle of putting it into a display tank; Zouichi stopped him before he could. "Excuse me, could I have that one? Blood drained, please."

Shore leave almost always meant that Mindfuck was still on the ship, somewhere deep in the city, trying to avoid the deafening planet-side cacophony she knew as the babbleroar.

Hiding was never all that effective.

With that in consideration and the mind-melting headaches she'd had to deal with during the last attacks anyways, she ventured out into the historical district. She'd had met plenty of aliens during her stay on the D10, but she rarely was able to find out more about their culture. This would be a good start. Even still, she was noticeably antsy and her eyebrows were furrowed in discontent.

Mindfuck wasn't the only one who usually stayed indoors. Shore leaves usually meant crowds, and that was something Satella didn't enjoy. Regardless, this was one of those times she decided to try and make due, specially since she was low on personal supplies and was also looking forward to real food, hopefully hamburgers.

Starting at the historical district seemed like a sound idea. After all, she didn't expect many people to venture there and it would put her on the right track to be able to venture into the more packed locations.

That's when she saw someone she'd seen before on board but never interacted with much. (Much like everyone else on the crew anyways.) She greeted her with a curt nod, but for the psychic it was clear that Satella wasn't in her element and was rather nervous.

Mindfuck returned the nod with a small smile and a raised brow. She was certain that poor girl probably looked just as bad as she currently did.

"Oh, no reason to be fidgeting--it seems like a rather safe place so far (at least I don't feel any malice). As hypocritical as it may sound, I'm antsy for an entirely different (migraine-inducing) reason."

Her voice was light, a bit strained and most oddly of all, it was in Satella's mind.
