There's a familiar-looking Scotsman standing with a fishing rod and a stool at one of the cast-off points on the Icefish Pier.
And this is probably the most relaxed any of you will have seen Dr. Beckett since emerging from the pods, as he casts off, before taking a seat on the stool.
Zouichi settled down in a spot nearby, having rented some gear for the duration. He looked a little out of place, sitting on a pier dangling a line into the water in full body armor. But he was warm enough, and you never knew when things were going to start going wrong.
"Aye, but I thought I'd get a wee bit of practice in beforehand."
Beckett had went shopping prior to all of this, and had bought clothes to replace his plantsuit, topped off with his Atlantis Expedition jacket from the ship. It was mostly warm clothing, understandably.
"After being stuck in a pod, I want to make sure that I still have the touch."
"So you've done this before?" Zouichi cast his line into the water. He wasn't sure if he'd actually catch anything, but he'd wanted to give it a shot, anyway.
"I don't think I ran into you on the Obs Deck. You're one of the new crew members, right?"
"Guess you could say that," Zouichi answered, taking one hand off the fishing rod to return the handshake. "I've never fished. ...Not in real life, anyway."
"It's really quite relaxing when you get the hang of it."
He smiles as he leans back in his seat. "If you're used to more exciting pasttimes, this isn't for you, though. All about the patience to wait for a bite."
"Ah!" Carson reacts almost instantly to that tug. He's a practiced fisherman, after all, having spent most of his childhood at some of the prime fishing spots in Scotland.
The fish struggles mightily against the line, attempting to dart away from the docks. But it's well and truly hooked, no matter how much it tries to get away. That doesn't top it from darting between the columns of the pier, though, while it's trying to escape.
Zouichi watched the events unfold with some interest -- while he did know the general idea behind reeling in a fish, he'd never really seen it done before.
Carson is taken by surprise at the sheer strength of this thing. He staggers slightly due to the fish zigzagging between posts on the pier, and throws his all into pulling his rod up and reeling it in.
A heavy splash announced the surfacing of the fish, but it wasn't done yet. It slackened the line, suddenly, as if to catch him off guard, then renewed its efforts with almost as much force as before.
And Carson is yanked forward, swearing out loudly as he is, obviously not expecting this fish to be as crafty. He's nearly pulled into the water, but digs his boots into the ground.
"Yer no' gettin' me that easy, ye wee bastard!" He's sounding like he's enjoying himself, however

Even on shore leaves.
He nodded to Beckett. "You here for the contest?"

He then nods. "Aye, I am. Dr. Carson Beckett." He offers his hand.

Zouichi had patience galore! Well, if patience involved waiting for a clear headshot, anyway.

"It's a powerful beastie, I'll say that much."
