Doing the Dirty Work [Open!]

Nov 12, 2011 21:21

How did Applejack stand working so hard around the farm? Her secret was simple: combining work and play. She'd brought the same styl to Hydroponics, where she'd sectioned off a small patch of the ground to be a place for some of the animals to play. The grass was dug up and seeds were planted elsewhere, water was poured, and Applejack herself was ( Read more... )

Mindy, of course, wasn't the type to be afraid of something like mud. As it was, she was in hydroponics to try and work out a little by herself. Overlord Zetta's insistence that she should be able to throw cars had sank in more than anyone thought, so she'd excused herself from Ruff's place to head to the bay, where she had brought some weights so she could work in peace.

So, of course, not looking where she was going, she promptly fell into the mud pit.

"What the FU-" She exclaimed, and her mouth was now full of dirt.

"Whoa there sugar!" Applejack was startled out of her playing by the sound of another voice, quickly stumbling across another lump in the mud. She tilted her neck down and nudged, rolling the body out of the mud as quickly as possible.

"You all right?"

Mindy had luckily caught herself from swearing out loud. Yes,s he was on a ship with a bunch of adult, but swearing in front of a pony was...just wrong somehow. She'd feel like she was raping her own childhood.

Which, of course, made no sense.

"Yeah, just mud," she muttered swiping at her scratched up and lsightly bleeding knees,. "Happens all the time. What are you doing anyway?"

"Why, makin' a mud pit of course!" Applejack laughed, flicking some mud away from her tail. "We always had one for the pigs back on the farm. Figured some of our critters might like to play in it too."

She was glad that Mindy was taking the mud splattering well. Some ponies wouldn't.

Erhart had been wandering through hydroponics when he was splattered with mud. All over his lovely white Tabard.

"Applejack, wasn't it? Please be aware where you are going."

He's probably scowling inside his helmet.

Erhart was sounding grumpy again. Applejack flicked her mane around her neck, staring up at him sheepishly.

"Sorry 'bout that. Was just focusing on my work here!"

The good old mud pit, one that she was happy to roll in.

"Very well." It's not like his tabard doesn't get covered in other people's blood or the time or nothing.

"Are... you playing?"

"Playing?" Applejack scoffed, but she understood the question. "Nah, this is work! Making a mud pit for the little critters. They're the ones that'll be playing."

Oh hey, mud! Punchy secretly likes playing in the dirt. It's where he found Puppet, after all, during one of the digs that made up his childhood pastimes. He even likes to pretend his parents are (were?) famous archaeologists.

And hey, it's the talking horse from the podpop! Punchy waves as he walks over, although he doesn't really expect much of a wave back since, well, hooves. "What up, homegirl?"

This ridiculously bright outfit was made for splattering mud on, obviously!

"Howdy!" Applejack hollered back, raising a muddy hoof in greeting. "You've come 'round at chore time. I'm making a mud pit for the critters!"

"A mud pit for the critters." And people say Punchy talks weird, although Applejack's accent is only a tad more pronounced than Punchy's would be, if he weren't going to such lengths to hide it. "We got critters? You need some backup on this mud-making shizz?"

"Sure do! Look around," Applejack urged him. There were little pink grub moles and large bird-like critters and wolves, and those alien puppies...plenty of life around here!

"Wouldn't mind another hoof if you've got one, though," she offered, digging her hoof into a particularly hard spot. She'd break it up eventually.

Beastboy's eyes were wide and booggled as he was showered with mud, an then he burst out laughing, so hard he almost fell over. He shifted into dog form and shook off the mud in retaliation.

She'd just spotted Beastboy's human form with wide eyes before he shifted, the little dog standing at the edge of the pit in a split second.

"Well hey there little fella. Come to test it out?" she teased.

Beastboy shifted back with a big grin, "Test what out? The mud pit?" He peered into it and could almost hear the child inside him begging to splash about and make a mess.

"Yup!" Wasn't it a beautiful mud pit? "Thought I'd give our critters someplace to play. The pigs back home loved it."

She wasn't quite sure if the other creatures here would like it, but she was willing to try! And in her heart of hearts she enjoyed playing in the mud too.

Denied - this looks like fun. Nima drops out of the sky and into the mud puddle, splattering Applejack in return.

"I was right! This is fun!

"Sure is!" Applejack grins, greeting her new guest with a little flicker of mud. "Needs to be a mite bigger, though. Wanna dig?"

"Sure! Too bad I'm not an Earthbender, or we wouldn't have to."

And their mud pit could be HUGE. Still, at the end of the day, Nima wouldn't trade her element for any other.

"What are you planting? Or are you making the mud for something?"

"Earthbender? Are they like the waterbenders?" That was an odd power if she'd ever seen one. Shaking her head, she flicked some mud from her face and looked out at the field.

"I'm not planting today. It's a little playpen for our critters."
