Death Throes

Jun 26, 2010 23:44

The battle raged on, but while the crew fought valiantly, the Ohm continued to come at them at full force.

Something had to be done, or they would soon be overrun.

Cargn, ever thinking of the larger picture, had released his familiar, Unit XXVI, at the beginning of the battle. It flew high above the battlefield, watching, waiting, searching for one ( Read more... )

The Final Push ohm_nom_nom June 27 2010, 03:53:44 UTC
It was obvious as soon as the warriors arrived that Cargn certainly hadn't chosen the easiest place for them to fight. The Ohm were tightly packed, swarms of thousands upon thousands of Grunts, along with Grenadiers, Tanks, and nearly the whole gamut of Ohm types waiting for them.

Yet it was here that was the best place for striking at the heart of the swarm, where the Node waited.

If they were to have any hope of winning, it was here they needed to stand and fight.

Superman heard the call. He was one of the ones Cargin needed to make the final push. But, right now, there was a bit of business needed to be taken care of.

The swarms of Ohm in front of him were massive. They needed to be cleared away.

If Superman was the type to show off, he'd grin as he pulled back his arms, then brought them together as fast and strong as he could. The resulting clap would lead to a massive sonic boom, the shockwave shattering glass all around and sending Ohm flying in its wake.

Bri had switched out his sniper rifle for an automatic shotgun for the close range combat, and he'd brought plenty of shells.

He opened fire as the Ohm poured around him, pumping out shells as quickly as he could. One by one, he took out some of the oncoming Grunts, but it wasn't nearly enough.

One of them managed to get in too close, slamming him to the ground and sending his shotgun flying. Bri drags himself back up to his feet.

Hand to hand wasn't normally his thing, but he wasn't totally defenseless. He waited for the Ohm to slash at him, ducking to the side. With his opening available to him, he brought his leg up, slamming his armored boot down on the Grunt's skull, cybernetically enhanced strength allowing him to crush the thing's skull.

With that done, he moves as quickly as he can, rushing over to where his shotgun was, readying it for more action.

He could only hope he brought enough ammo.

A node.

Nanoha had read Cargn's reports, and this was the thing that was responsible for the destruction of worlds. For the destruction of universes. The memories of Mid-Childa's violent destruction were still deep in her mind, and there was no doubt: They needed to destroy this thing now.

Her body ached even after having downgraded to Blaster-1, and she knew that - especially with Rein's departure - there was no way she could physically stand to use Blaster-3... not even her determination would see her through that one. But there was something she could do: The air was thick and heavy with spent magic. She would use that.

"Are you ready, Raising Heart?"

It answered her as it always did, faithful and at her side. "I can still fight, My Master."

"Okay." Nanoha raised the weapon - cracks hissing with steam visible on its golden surface - and pointed it at the fleet of Ohm with trembling hands that she willed to keep still for just a little moment longer. "Just... a little bit more, Raising Heart. That's all we need." And when ( ... )

Cargn waited at the coordinates he'd sent to the Strike Team, fighting nearby Ohm as he patiently waited for the others to arrive.

The entire fate of this world rested in the hands of this small group. It was not the most meticulous plan--such plans built in the heat of battle never were--but he was confident that if they had any chance of winning, it was here.

Ben was the first to arrive, his expression focused. He was breathing a little hard but otherwise seemed to be full of fighting spirit because he had at least 15 minutes left on his buffs.

Touching his Ultimatrix, the towering form of Humungosaur appeared overhead, standing beside Cargn. And then he twisted and touched the Ultimatrix again as green light crawled across his body, sheathing him in extra-hard green and black armor, spikes growing as his head gained more protection.

No words needed to be said, only the dull ch-chak of his hands shifting from normal fingers to missile launchers. INFINITE missile launchers.

Evolution was kind to the species.

Rein followed, ready to go. Fate had requested her aid for this and she was definitely going to help. She stood, awaiting the command, running through every spell she could think of to give them the edge. And she patted Ultimate Humungosaur's knee as she nodded to Cargn.

It was us or them. And for once, Rein wasn't liking the odds. "Ready when you are, Fate-san."

Fate had been a bit surprised when she heard the order for her to join Cargn, and for a moment, she hesitated. There were still many Ohm left in the area she had been fighting in, and with one person down (she tried not to think of who that one person was) and her splitting off to a different area of the city, the others would have to fight much harder.

... But this was important. This was for the safety of an entire planet. So she rushed over to the coordinates Cargn had specified, still in her Sonic Form, her face a mask of determination.

"Right, let's go. Unison in!"

ARHA MASAARI

Pop. Pop. Pop.

Arha knew that was a bad sound and it was worse when her engines died. Her head ached and she was dizzy and she was suddenly aware that her stabilizer had just rattled half way off. Without her droid to tack it back on, she knew it was going to be a hell of a ride ( ... )

Arha heard the snap-ping! and the tick, tick, tick as the metal gave a little from the rough descent. The shrill, buzzing alarm bled into her unconscious state, mixing with the shock of her other injuries. Her ribs throbbed from where her flight stick had jammed into them and her legs ached, but it was her head that overrode the other pain ( ... )

If that was the last thing she registered, she didn't see the green blade flashing outside her cockpit, nor feel the ripple of Force that sent the pieces flying out into the fray. He'd left Mara and Ben to the Shadow and gone back out into the body of the fighting, though he knew that one-on-one combat was more or less pointless at this point.

But the Force had led him here, and so, the wrecked X-Wing clear of grunts for now, Luke popped the canopy and reached in, grabbing Arha with both hands and pulling her clear of the crash webbing. "Arha!" he called, shaking her gently. "Arha, wake up!"

Somewhere inside the darkness she knew Luke's voice and tried to stir, to get herself back up through the black. It was a long process that consisted of sheer will and determination, but she managed to force her eyes open.

The left one was definitely bloodshot and looked frighteningly strange compared to her clear eye as she worked to focus on Luke's face. Her lips moved, but nothing save a slight questioning croak came out. The only thought she could form with any coherence was a muzzy: Tired.

She'd shot down her share of Ohm and a nap sounded brilliant.
