Being in Seattle for nine years, and being a regular in Torrent for a couple of months, he had never attended Open Mic at the coffee shop. It was probably the fact that he hadn’t heard from it until a fellow coworker had mentioned it a couple of days ago. So, because his shift had ended oddly early, he went over to check it out. Drew stood way in the back, leaning against the wall watching some of the performers. He didn’t know if he was going to perform or not; he has never done it in front of a crowd. Maybe in front of a few people, but never in public. He was amazed about how many talented musicians there were around here.
Then a girl came on stage; she looked young, and she definitely had a voice in her. Drew was highly impressed with it. Once she got off and waved, he glued his eyes on her and moved through the crowd to reach her. His finger tapped on her shoulder and then pushed his hands into his pockets, “Hey” he smiled, “you were really good up there”
Bella had just managed to put her guitar back into its case with some random people talking to her as she did so, but then she felt the tap on her shoulder and turned around to see who had done it. In front of her was a man, looking kind of shy and had his hands shoved into his pockets, but he did have a great smile. Compliments never failed to make her blush at least a little bit, especially when from new people. So in spite of the blush that had appeared on her cheeks she felt herself smile as she ran a hand through her hair to push it out of her face. "Thank you," She wiped her hand off on her jeans and held it out to him, hoping he wouldn't mind, "I'm Bella, I don't think I've seen you here before."
He happily took the offered hand and shook it with pleasure, “I’m Drew” He smiled wider at the female and noted her hair for some reason. Bright and orange; he digged that. But kept the comment to himself so he could answer her question. His shoulders shrugged, “Yeah, I kinda didn’t know there was an open mic until a few days ago. So I decided to check it out” he explained. And now that he has discovered this night, she would be sure to be seeing more of his face. Maybe he would bring Brian along as a date; who knows.
When he eyes wandered, it immediately caught sight of her guitar, both brows rising surprised, “Is…” he stopped and tilted his head, “Is that a Gibson J-250 Monarch?” he asked.
"Well, it's very nice to meet you Drew. And I'm really glad you stumbled in here tonight," Bella answered, it was nice to hear about more and more people just coming into the cafe to check things out. It was definitely a big perk for business, too bad that she always kept the record store closed on Wednesday nights so people could enjoy the music.
Then the comment about the guitar was said and Bella was actually surprised that Drew asked about it. "Um, yeah actually. I got it as a present a few years ago," Bella answered as she walked back over to her guitar and took it out of the case to show him. The record label that had tried to sign her purchased it for her, but even though that had fallen through she still wound up with a kick-ass guitar, "Want to see it?"
Vanessa had just gotten off her shift in the record store and wanted to check out tonight's performances. She herself wasn't performing tonight, but that didn't mean she didn't like watching other people.
Wandering, through the cafe, she watched the current performer for a few moments before she went to the counter to order herself a drink.
"I wasn't originally planning on it." Vanessa said as she got her drink and turned towards Bella, "I'm pretty exhausted from working all day so I was thinking of sitting tonight out."
"Ah, gotcha. Well I do want to watch you perform sometime soon," Bella pointed out with a bit of a smile, "I know you're amazing, so you should definitely show off."
Anne sat somewhat on the back, drinking wine and trying her best not to be noticed. She was feeling rather worn out and didn't really feel like socializing with a lot of people; she was just there to watch Bella perform - what that little redhead did incredibly well.
Anne stood up and kissed Bella's forehead."Yes, finally. And it was wonderful. You've got talent." She pulled a chair for her friend to sit. "Care to join me?"
The kiss immediately made Bella blush, why did Anne always manage to do that to her? She bit her bottom lip as she listened to the compliments and nodded as she sat down beside Anne, "Thank you, that means a lot to me."
When Oliver arrived, it was in the middle of the gig, and he took a seat in the back. It had been a couple of days since he'd talked to or seen Bella, but Monday he'd gone to her gig, which had been great fun, and afterwards, the two of them had managed to stumble into a roughly intimate encouter--again.
That night, he really enjoyed the song she played, and made a mental note to tell her so when she stopped playing. So after she was finished and milled around for awhile, Oliver folded a paper plane from a flyer, wrote 'Nice job, Ginger' on the wing, and threw it so that it hit her in the side of the head.
Bella was actually heading up to the counter to grab a bottle of water when she felt something hit her in the head. Her brow furrowed as she looked down and saw a paper airplane at her feet and she leaned down to pick it up. Upon opening she saw the note and she couldn't help but grin and shake her head, what a pain in the ass he was. She folded it up, tucked it in her back pocket, and looked around for Oliver to make her way to him.
He got up from his spot near the back and made his way to the crowd to talk to her, laughing a little already when he saw her. "Yeah, I know. I act like I'm five. But it got your attention, didn't it?" With a shrug and a smirk, he nodded to the menu and asked, "D'you want anything or do you get free shit when you play? Oh, and by the way, your song was fuckin' brilliant tonight. That 'when it rains' song was the best, I think. It stuck with the most. You ought to get in a studio with that one. It could be big. It's got all the making's of a single."
"Yes, you definitely do act like you're 5, I can't decide if it's endearing or just generally creepy. But yes, you really did succeed in getting my attention," Bella couldn't help but tease him because no matter what she always enjoyed her banter with him. She shook her head at the offer, "Yeah, I do get free shit, but that's because I'm the manager upstairs, they gotta do something to keep me happy."
She thanked the person behind the counter as she took her water bottle and grabbed Oliver's arm so they could go to a better spot in the cafe to talk. The compliment made her chuckle and she shook her head, "I should have slept with you sooner if you were going to be this nice about my music. And I'm glad you enjoyed it, it's one of my favorites right now. And a studio? Really? I'll think about it, I haven't gone in to do studio time in ages and I don't know if I really want to lay down all that money right now.especially if there's no one to get it out there."
