Girl! I feel like I'm reading my own thoughts O.o except I'm not aiming to translate films, I'd just like to teach English in Japan one day as well, no matter how everyone's saying it's not easy for women in the Japanese workforce, even more so if we're foreigners. Even if I have to live in a Makino Tsukushi kind of apartment and teach in a small school, I'd still wanna take that opportunity ( ... )

I can't vouch for living expenses because I don't have any really because my homestay is basically free, but if you live in a smaller town in a not so populated area (as a JET) its very easy to live a comfortable life. My cousin teaches up in Akita on the Oga Peninsula. She teaches at about 20 different schools in the area, because the town is vast but sparsely populated. The only downside to that is she can't get close with any of her students. But other than that she travels a hell of a lot and is always buying me nice things; which indicates to me that she is pretty much set in the money department ( ... )

it took me so long to reply to this, but here it goes. i know people are going to (probably) shoot me down, but i'd like to think that these people who discourage you are only looking out for you. i'm sure you know that as well. i have nothing against you going for your dream. i support you. i believe that teaching is a very noble job, and you have the right motivation for it. the world needs more teachers with the same intent as yours. but teaching isn't the best job. where i am, teaching is usually a job where sacrifices are too many and compensation is too less. this gives me a different view to teaching as compared to people from well-off countries ( ... )
