Girl! I feel like I'm reading my own thoughts O.o except I'm not aiming to translate films, I'd just like to teach English in Japan one day as well, no matter how everyone's saying it's not easy for women in the Japanese workforce, even more so if we're foreigners. Even if I have to live in a Makino Tsukushi kind of apartment and teach in a small school, I'd still wanna take that opportunity.

A step at a time, even if you have to start out translating manuals, I say just go for it and see how things turn out. Who knows, your passion might grow into something else. You might even discover a new passion while you're at it:)

I know someone who went to Thailand to get a teaching cert, then went to a language school in Nagoya for 6 months to further improve on his Japanese language. While holding the student visa, he was able to start looking for teaching jobs early then convert his visa to a work visa in due time. For a year he enjoyed teaching students in neighbourhood schools, before he decide to move on and settle on a new translation related job. Hmm and my point is, he worked hard to get where he is, and you can too ^^

As for me.... I'm working full-time now, managing translators who translate washing machine manuals and what not into Japanese, Korean and other asian languages (lol) while studying Japanese and one day I hope to be able to live in Japan for a few years!

*hugs*
