The Office -- "Casino Night"

May 12, 2006 01:12

amycurl and marymary, I don't care if it's just the three of us blabbing about this. Because like marymary, I am DYING to talk about this episode of my other favorite show. There: I said it, and I'm glad I did. (OK, now I'm feeling bad, as if other shows I like would feel bad about that phrasing, so let me amend: As of 8 p.m. Sunday (sniff), "The ( Read more... )

Avert my eyes? amycurl May 12 2006, 19:55:51 UTC
"Well, avert your eyes the rest of the way, and I'll return to totally hitting on you in places Liz hangs out."

So, do you only hit on me to make Liz feel jealous? Is that the way it works then? A girl likes to know where she stands.

*pouts in a completely irresistable manner*

Carry on...Don't mind the attractive woman over here needing to be entertained. (This is actually a very good discussion, and I know I'm being rude...)

No, I hit on you to hit on you.
Yes, the pouting is irresistible and attractive.
C'mere, I'll entertain you with your birthday present again.

Woo-hoo! And just how big is my present, Tommy? :)

I might have a moment here to watch the TiVo. Then I can actually, you know, substainally contribute to the discussion. Besides, mary ordered me to last night, and I always do what mary tells me...

You're right. What they have done with Michael is brilliant. He's actually getting somewhere with Jan, but damned if he's actually aware of it.

Good catch on the poker jargon! I totally didn't think of that.

I agree with you on the "couple" thing. They are always supportive of each other, but more than that, they have a whole level of communication all to themselves. They're so sensitive to each other, and understand each other so well, that each of them is ready for the pass (to continue your sports analogy). So Pam instantly picks up her umbrella...and Jim's not really surprised that she's doing it.

(do you mean Nancy Walls? They kinda look alike. Nancy's SC's wife. Did you see that great speech --- was it Emmys or Golden Globes...? Am I being totally confusing?)

Ok, amyc, another girl's here so I can get more mushy. The second time I watched, I noticed how great that hug/kiss was at the end. Jim kinda scoops her --- his arms go down around her and then pull her toward him. More than the kiss, I thought that was awesome. So...I don't know...urgent and gentle at the same time. Jim Halpert is so my TV boyfriend. But we can share, ac. I like sharing with you ( ... )

She has not posted a new one. And whaddya mean "us perverts"? ;-) (Yeah, I know, you can produce LJ and TWoP posts to back up this assertion.)

Carell's awesome paean to his wife was at the Golden Globes. Maybe he'll get to reprise it at the Emmys ... speaking of the Emmys, since I don't have high hopes for TWW people to receive Lovely Parting Gifts, I hope that "Desperate" is no longer the flavor of the month and some Emmy love can be had by "The Office" or "Arrested Development." I have my doubts about that, though, too; Emmy voters don't often embrace things that are a different kind of TV. (I say not often because AD did win the Best Comedy Emmy in 2004.)

There is a fairy-tale quality to the Jim/Pam kiss. There was lust in The Kissage; Jim and Pam have only scratched the Love Surface (shut up, it's not Dark yet).

It didn't even occur to me that Pam would have just done the bit with the umbrella unilaterally. But I suppose that's what the wink was, wasn't it?

Exactly right. I hadn't thought of it that way, but that's how you know.

Josh and Donna had all those years, and they are an older, more sophisticated couple in a more sophisticated show, so their little sex camp was spot-on. Jim and Pam's relationship is so delicately drawn that the sweet kiss was like a bombshell.

For whatever reason (ratings, promotion, timeslot, exceeding expectations) The Office seems to have gained a much higher profile than it had starting out, and I think that's what you need to be considered. I think they're in a much better position than AD ever was, so I'll be crossing my fingers in September ( ... )
