I'm willing to bet that Nolan originally meant for Dick Grayson to be the reveal at the end but was probably pressured - either by the studio or by his gut instinct - into just flat-out saying Robin. Which, admittedly, has more of an effect in theaters than the name Grayson ever would. The audience I saw it with burst into eruptive applause when it happened, and I was in a theater of fanboys (we watched the whole trilogy in a row, complete with trivia questions during the intermissions, costume contests, free posters), so I think it was just a big crowd pleasing moment more than anything. As lame as it sounds when I talk about it now, it gave me massive goosebumps at the time. And that, coupled with the closing shot of Bruce's gadgets coming up out of water?? sdjkkjdsfjskdfjsf ( ... )

Yeah, admittedly the Robin thing made me smile despite my bewilderment. Doofy, but effective in the moment. I liked Blake enough and his working with Gordon and Batman made the ending obvious enough that it was really cool when it came around ( ... )

This is like mostly unrelated but I just found this picture on my Tumblr, which I'm fairly certain is from way before Hathaway was even cast, and it's perfect.

Haha going back through all my old celebrity picture folders is funny because they're alphabetical and with how i name my files "Anne" always ends up next to "Bale," so i have folders from like four years ago where all the pictures of them are grouped together. CONVENIENT!

GIMME BATGIRL BEGINS OR GET THE FUCK OUT

YES

Man I feel extra stupid now for not seeing the whole Talia thing ... like, I even went "WAT NO" when they said Bane was Ra's's kid and I still took it at face value in the film. I didn't watch any trailers or interviews or much of anything beforehand, but I can't believe the reveal actually surprised me. Dang, yo.

So sad I didn't go see it at midnight last night ... I figured today would be as good, audience-wise, but the audience in my theater was not made of nerds at all, they hardly laughed, clapped, or cheered at ANYTHING. ughhh gtfo and wait to see it for a week you assholes, this is not your time and you are not my people.

I was too busy going "WTF is that the dead Boromir music from LotR" over the Man of Steel trailer to actually pay attention to anything in it but oh no is that what they are trying to do noooooooo.

That's cool that the reveal surprised you, though! It seems like most of the internet was operating under the assumption that she was Talia ever since she was cast, because why would you have a big name in such a no-name role.

I kind of wanted to avoid crowds because i'm always terrified of not getting a good seat or being surrounded by really obnoxious people, so i went in the afternoon... and yeah, not much nerd response. One guy behind me clapped when Talia finally called herself Talia, and afterward my dad was like "why did he clap? what's the big deal?" so i had to explain to my family that Talia is an important character in the Batman mythos. Hehe.

And i dunno, it just LOOKS like they're trying to make Superman all gritty like Batman; just that teaser alone had that whole ~realism~ schtick going on and he's being a ~loner~ with a ~beard~, and obviously involving Nolan in the producer role they're trying to duplicate the TDK success and it's like UGH. NO. THAT'S NOT SUPERMAN. SHUT IT DOWN.

I don't get to see the movie for another week so I didn't really read the post save the first and last lines and ITA WITH YOU THERE 100%. Also your subject line is catchy and now there's a cracky music video flying through my head of the song guest starring Bruce and Selina. Feel proud!

Ugh i hate all your different release dates, that's so unfair! JUST LET EVERYBODY HAVE IT AT THE SAME TIME. THIS IS THE FUTURE!

And i was definitely thinking of that lyric for Bruce and Selina, so your interpretation is spot-on. Yay!

HO BOY SO SO SO HAPPY TOO ABOUT HOW SELINA ENDED UP!! I probably wasn't as dubious as other Bat fans about her casting because Heath Ledger was also weird random casting for Joker and that turned out exceedingly well, so i was just thinking Nolan's got a pretty good casting record so i can rest easy. But still, above and beyond expectations! She was as mewly and bendy as i wanted/expected/dreamt she would be! Also loved seeing random famous actors in bit roles in this, as cops and thugs and such. Were all the actors clamoring for just a teensy weensy role in the movie! Gimme anything, i'll be Cop #4 ( ... )
