Oh no, he really meant it. Not even going to defend the ass, the only justification he could have is that it WAS a joke (although a lame one), and Italians just aren't as sensible when it comes to black people simply because we don't have any, except for immigrants, and that's an issue that's not related to the color of their skin but to the fact they're, well, immigrants.
He should've taken it back though, because as a president he should be aware of the way black issues are percieved in other parts of the world, but he didn't. And that's why he sucks and I'm getting away from here as soon as I can.

It's a good point you raise about how he should have known better, especially taking into consideration our nation's history of racism and how it makes everyone over here hyper-sensitive about remarks on skin color.
