A really odd and somethat scary thought...

So, I'm a couple chapters into Broken Hearts (the current fanfic on the table). Basic idea is, a month post-Eclipse, Raw calls his companions to the enclave of his tribe to share some "mixed" news with them. the good news being the Viewers want to rejoined the world, and bad news being a spoiler, and the ugly news even more so ( Read more... )

plot holes, other canons: baum, canon, other canons: maguire, fanon

For one thing, a society of telepathic empaths would likely lead to a pacific, vegetarian society I'd think (well, perhaps eating of fish/shellfish/non-mammals). Crimes such as theft and assault/rape/murder would be also unlikely-if for no other reason than having a pretty hard time of it concealing-wise! Not that such things would be totally unknown, since certain of the higher apeshave been observed being violent for what appears to be violence's sake, but with sentience as well as empathy/telepathy I'd think it would be very uncommon. Disputes would likely be settled by negotiation; marriages might tend towards being arranged at an early age since elders can matched early in life in relationships with a lieminded, personality-complementing mate/s...mates being very possible in an open society...persons might have a 'main mate' but others might not, just like actual life ( ... )

First of all, I think they would rarely actually talk - communicating mostly on a level of intuitive understanding, except when discussing logistics, human concepts, or talking to children. Power hierarchies might be based on Viewing Ability. And people who *don't* fit into the selfless utopia described by zcobalt, like Raw back when he was a coward and betrayed them, apparently get exiled ( ... )

I rather wondered what percentage of them were actually telepathic at all. The fact that Raw is described as a Viewer of extraordinary skill (or some such adjective,) implies that there's a bell-curve of talent, and perhaps a percentage of completely non-telepaths.

In which case... well. Would those like Raw be pushed into leadership positions? Were they the shamans of the tribe? Perhaps some took positions as mercenaries-- I'd bet my boots that they'd be in heavy demand for settling disputes among the humans, and one or two working Viewers could probably support a whole tribe.

And were those tribes agrarian or hunter-gatherers? Herders, perhaps? Raw looked to be wearing a fur garment, rather than having a furry pelt the way Lahr's Lion did, so some animal harvesting must have taken place.

Given the extreme lack of canon... the possibilities really are endless. There's a lot of fun to be had, there...

I'm very strange. I think I should warn you of that before I start this.

I think that after 12 years, they are as hidden as possible. If you've ever been to Mesa Verde, I picture something like that. They would have moved as far away as possible, somewhere they could hide safely. Grow crops on top of the mesa, live inside the cliff faces (the claws on Raw's gloves always struck me as less useful for combat, but that could just be me), and have a strong hunter/gatherer society ( ... )
