.051 Wild West Breach, a message from the Mayor's Office

May 17, 2011 21:42

Friends, dear citizens, my neighbors, I know some of you might be a bit nervous about all these newcomers. Well, I swear to you that I am entirely dedicated to this town's safety and prosperity. Outlaws, whether they come in bands or a lone wolf, will be rounded up by our good sheriff and his deputies, and civilization will win out over ( Read more... )

I would be glad to help out where I can, sir. [That is a much easier task than patrolling the town, at night, by himself. He's all over this assignment.]

Good man. Enthusiasm like that will really take you places. Maybe to a promotion someday.

[Occasionally, Pol does have to step away from her dance hall; things like food need to be bought, and occasionally a new toy for David. She even dresses up when she walks outside her establishment, properly dressed and everything, though it all seems a little less stiff. She walks with the same assurance she works with, but that does make it easy to bump into someone - even the mayor - on her way into the grocer's.]

My, sir, you must excuse me. [But he's getting a smile. She's decided it's tradition to try to get him to visit the Roadhouse.]

Pardon me, ma'am. [He tips his hat automatically, then sees who it is and gets a slightly nervous, darting-eyed look before covering it with a polite smile. On the one hand, it wouldn't do his reputation any good if he's seen spending too much time with a Loose Woman, but on the other hand, he doesn't want to be seen as rude to woman who's very popular with many of the voting menfolk. On the third hand, she's a very very pretty lady. He's not sure if that's an argument in favor of lingering or leaving quickly before her Wiles get to him.]

Your...business is doing well, I hear.

Quite well, Mister Mayor. [She subtly puts herself in the way of his easiest exit, balancing her half filled basket against one hip and smiling up at him.] You should come by and see for yourself. Tonight, maybe. What are your thoughts on Shakespeare?

[Oh, heavens, unless she moves he's going to have to slip awfully close by her to escape. Possibly even brush against her.]

The Bard's poetry is second only to God's. I hear that the performances you put on take quite a few liberties, however.

Yes sir, I like that recommendation. [He doesn't like Franklin all alone in the town, thought.] But mayhap two of us should stick around, just in case.

I have every confidence that Mott can handle it himself.

I'm sure he can, sir. [Lol no he isn't. :|] But maybe my father could stick around and give him a hand. [He wants to go looking for the bad guys so badly. :c]

I had no intention of it today. I hope you didn't have anything planned. [He doesn't care whether he has anything planned. But he has been getting progressively worse as more and more people move out. He doesn't take people leaving too well.]

I'm having guests over for supper. Mr. and Mrs. Reaver. But if you're going to be drunk, I'd rather you didn't join us.

Oh! Lovely. Seems we're in complete agreement. I'd rather I didn't join you either.

I'm going to the clinic. I'll take my bottle with me so that it doesn't make a scene.

I'm sure you and your bottle will have a very happy evening together.

Are all newcomers really that undesirable, Mister Mayor?

Not all newcomers by any means, Marshall. You and your partner are most welcome here. I hope you catch your man and I've advised all my lawmen to assist you however they can. But we've had in influx of strange sorts and some bad rumors going around.

[That gets a genuine laugh out of him.] Considering about half your force is my kin, I'd be disappointed if they didn't.

How serious are these rumors? I'm afraid my partner and I didn't seen any evidence of any outlaw gangs roaming nearby, but we'd heard talk long before we got into town.

As with any rumors, it's hard to say. It's got some people mighty uneasy, though.
