[Narvin's feeling pissy. He's been stabbed, shot, and mind-punted by Seven when he was poking his telepathy where it didn't belong. He's spent the end of last week drugged in the infirmary and many days after that in a Time Lord healing trace for most of each day. He is so very much not feeling up to waging a political fight.]I approve of Ardent

But you did keep your word. Thank you. If they made you break it, there would have been consequences.

I do try to keep my word whenever I can. [Except sometimes. It's difficult being an honourable spy. Like being a deaf musician.]

I will not tolerate another Randal, I shall tell you now, and if any of those three slips up or simply doesn't care, I will not stand for it.
If it's not going to be you, make sure they don't, and make sure they understand why it is so important.

You know I have Kay's ear. If there are problems, tell me and I'll do what I can to sort them out.

I can clear my lab space any time you need it. May I ask what you're working on? [Curious Time Lord is curious.]

Some pepper spray and I might play around with some non-lethal weapons. I need to put in a request to the Admiral and see how that goes.

[Narvin fowards his Private addendum to Ardent and their subsequent conversation.]
Actually, I came to a realization yesterday that I think will help me in my dealings with him. I think I know what needs to be done.

[Even if it is he still might take it. He's that fed up with this nonsense.]
Why in the heavens did you ever decide to become an ambassador? Have you just always been drawn to the worst jobs Gallifrey offers?

Yes, I'm sure it was by sheer chance that all your enemies and rivals were eliminated. [And once the rest of his mind catches up to the casually hurled accusation, his eyes widen ever so slightly in disquiet. Because it was true. All of Brax's enemies ended up dead, or reassigned, or demoted, or otherwise gotten rid of. Which left him with three possibilities: either his appointment to CIA Coordinator was part of some scheme of Brax's all along, or Brax considered Narvin so little a threat that he never bothered arranging for "chance" to remove him, or Brax never thought they were rivals. All three options were franking embarrassing, each in their own way. So he decides that he won't ask. It's much more satisfying to pretend that he'd simply managed to thwart Brax's attempts to get rid of him. Attempts that he never ever saw or was even aware of.]
