Confessions of a Dude who sleeps with Stuffed Animals

Jan 08, 2012 12:50

I have this problem. See, I'm a grown man, and every night I curl up with a stuffed animal when I sleep. This is pretty freaky, right? Well, yeah, I admit it is, and I'm totally OK with that. While I wouldn't exactly want my co-workers to know about it, I'm just fine and dandy with the fact myself ( Read more... )

I remember that plush being famous back then. It DOES make an awesome body pillow which is likely why.

I keep my Meekos clean and spiffy by sleeping with other plushies most of the time. Heretical idea, I know. ;-)
Meeko was the first plushie that seemed just perfect to me, but later I found that basically there's a whole world of plush out there, and I found that I love some of them a lot more.

Unfortunately, a lot of the real quality plush that I love are like Meeko in that they are no longer made either. But there are a few that are still around, and some are most excellent in every way.

That's just me though, so best of luck in finding or making new bedtime plushies of your own choosing.

If you are really and truly set on Meeko, you might want to contact t_h_squirrel, because he has already gone through the process of taking apart a Meeko to get the pattern. And I understand he either has, or is close to ordering some to be custom made, but in a larger 2-to-1 scale (since he likes large plush). Regardless, you might be able to get the original pattern from him without destroying one of your own.

Yep. If you want Meeko's original pattern, T.H.S. is THE man to get in touch with. Not only can he get you any size Meeko you desire, he's also in the process of having one made whose face points straight forward. I like that concept a lot. Much better for nuzzling and smooching!

Yes sir, you are right. I have one made by a plush manufacturer in China. I mailed them a matted Meeko and they did a good job on it (pictures will soon follow). They can make you any size that your heart desires and reasonably priced too. Marko The Rat poked me on doing this. :P I would like a 100 inch tall standing Meeko. :D But, it would be a chore to get through the doorway. The same manufacturer made me a 4 foot plush of someones character/suit. They also did a great job on it. They can make me just one and reasonably priced. I haven't been updating my LJ and FA that much. Since the death of my Father last February, I have been a lot more busy doing more paperwork. I'll make a post soon with pictures on both accounts. ;)

Making a plush from a pattern isn't too difficult. If you wind up having to disassemble one of your meekos to get a pattern, make sure to add about 1/4 to 1/2 inch seam allowance around all sides, as you'll probably need it more than a factory worker who sews these all day.

The downsides to making one are twofold. First, as has already been pointed out, it's not going to be that easy to find the exact kind of fur you want, and second, after stuffing it's not going to have the same feel. That's not to say it will feel bad, but it won't feel the same, as the fur texture will likely be off, and the stuffing qualities won't be exactly what you're used to.

Still, go for it. And better yet, when you find the materials, buy enough for two or three, and make the first one, then make a second and or third. You'll get better at it with practice.

There was a time when I had 3 of those 40-inch Stitch plushies. Sold one and gave one away. The one I kept? Well, he's not my nocturnal snuggle-bunny, but he gets his fair share of cuddlin', I assure you!
