The Dalek was busy with the infuriatingly primitive human computer. Why did the Doctor like these creatures so much? He hadn't noticed her sneaking towards the door...yet.

She sighed, nodding down towards her ankle. "Not entirely."

This whole bloody thing was ridiculous. And embarrassing. Needing rescue from a defenseless Dalek and hurting her leg. Oh, Sarah Jane felt as if she would never live it down.

The Dalek looked balefully at the Doctor. Best to get this over with as quickly as possible.

"YOU WILL BEGIN REPAIRS."

"Let Sarah Jane go first," the Doctor shot back. "And then I'm all yours."

The Brigadier watched all of this closely. Right now the Dalek couldn't hurt them too badly and he could only hope that it would actually listen to reason for once.

Then again, what were the odds of that?

She looked back and forth between the Dalek, a flash of annoyance in her eyes.

"Someday," she said slowly, "you will think of far more creative words, won't you? I would've left easily on my own, you know. If I hadn't tripped."

With whom Sarah was addressing remained anyone's guess.

The Dalek considered the Doctor's request a moment.

"UNACCEPTABLE. BEGIN REPAIRS IMMEDIATELY."

"Mm, figured you might say that, yeah." The Doctor made a face, moving from where he'd been standing to meander around the room. He wasn't particularly looking for anything, but he made a bit of a show of poking around, hoping the Dalek's attentions would remain on him. He was the biggest threat here, after all.

"Thing about that, though? You need me. I don't fix you, you're just a pepper pot with a plunger on." He turned here, to face the Dalek fully where before, he'd only been watching it out of the corners of his eyes. And when he did, he looked angry. "So. You let Sarah Jane and the Brigadier leave this room, and I'll fix you. That's the deal."

Alistair fingered his service pistol. Useless, yes, but reassuring. He side-stepped towards the door, still keeping an eye on the Dalek. Please, please let Smith see reason and not let her tiff with the Doctor prevent her from getting to safety...
