The Dalek was busy with the infuriatingly primitive human computer. Why did the Doctor like these creatures so much? He hadn't noticed her sneaking towards the door...yet.

She glanced behind her, happy to see the Dalek still preoccupied.

Glancing behind oneself, though, has its consequences. For example: at times, there could be random chairs blocking your path to escape. At times, furthermore, you may not notice them until it is too late.

"Fuck," Sarah swore when she tumbled over the chair, falling on her ankle. She clutched it, wincing in pain. "Oh, bloody hell."

The Dalek immediately swung around. Not startled, because Daleks don't get startled. Yeah! Out of habit, the weapon aimed at Sarah Jane. Damn humans.

"HALT! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"

Sarah Jane tried to stand. She winced the moment she put her foot on the ground and nearly collapsed all over again.

"Absolutely nothing," she responded, doing her best to keep her fear out of her voice. It had been different facing a Dalek when she could run. "Simply looking for a chair to sit on."

The Dalek would have looked suspicious if it had the ability. Instead it just made a sound of annoyance and turned back to the computer.

"REMAIN WHERE YOU ARE. OR YOU WILL BE EX-TERMI-NATED."

She tried to move. When she did, Sarah only stumbled again.

"I can't bloody well do any such thing, so just stow it, will you?"

If the Dalek had any kind of response, however, it was lost as suddenly, someone was knocking on the door. It was a courtesy, of course - one the Doctor didn't think the Dalek particularly deserved, but well. Better let it know he was there, rather than just come in and let it think it was under attack.

Daleks, after all, were notorious for wanton murder when they thought they were being threatened.

The Dalek turned towards the door, infuriating computer forgotten as he moved to sit next to Sarah Jane. Needed to keep her within easy threatening distance after all.

"YOU MAY ENTER."

At the very least it let her sit back on the bed. Far less embarrassing than being found on the floor. Especially seeing as her ankle still hurt.

Still. Sarah scowled at both the Dalek and the door, especially when a certain man entered.

"I can rescue myself, you know."

The Brigadier slipped in after the doctor, trying to look unobtrusive. Miss Smith looked alright, but you really couldn't tell with these Daleks. He found himself a spot on the wall and waited for either the Doctor or the Dalek to say something.

The Doctor made a noise that he hoped passed for accepting, though considering the look that went with it? It pretty much killed what he was going for. Not that he didn't trust Sarah Jane to escape - she'd gotten out of situations just as tough, if he remembered right - this was more he was still irritated she'd gotten kidnapped in the first place. He kept this much to himself, however, and instead turned his attentions on the Dalek.

"You may enter?" he echoed, tilting his head at it, curiously. "Not identify yourself? How'd you know it was me, then?"

Sarah rubbed at her swelling ankle, rolling her eyes.

Beating the Dalek to the reply, she answered: "Who else would be daft enough."

And he brought the Brig with him. Wasn't the whole point of her capture to avoid his?

"People who are new here and get lost. People daft as me, coming in the first place. Door to door retailers."

He tried not to make a face at Sarah Jane. He hadn't been asking because he really cared - Sarah was right, who would be daft enough? - he'd been asking because he was trying to flesh out how much of the Dalek's systems were still offline. Without outright asking, because that would be stupid.

The Dalek eyed the Brigadier for a moment before turning his attention back to the only really dangerous person in the room.

"IF IT WAS SOME-ONE ELSE THEY WOULD BE EX-TERMI-NATED." He rolled forwards, suspicious of this other human. "YOU WERE TOLD YOU TO COME ALONE."

Of course, the Dalek hadn't expected him to actually come alone, but better to make them think he had.

"Did, didn't you?" Regardless of how light his tone was, however, the Doctor put himself between the Dalek and the Brigadier pointedly. He already had Sarah Jane - he wasn't getting Alistair. "But you know me. And he's not a threat to you. Daleks are superior and all that. Just here to get Miss Smith out safely, he is."

Alistair nodded in agreement, keeping quiet for now. Saying something would probably just make that infernal thing more irate. He watches Sarah Jane and the Dalek closely, hand on his automatic. For all the good it would do, anyway.

Well, he did have to say something.

"Miss Smith, are you quite alright?"
