some rooftop action for Teppic

Feb 17, 2012 18:23

There was something refreshing about standing on top of a building, by herself, no one else to worry about or bother her. She hadn't had a solo mission in way too long. Before going in, Sarah checked to make sure that the tracking device she had placed on the target hadn't moved. And it hadn't. Good. She slipped the GPS into the case clipped to her ( Read more... )

Teppic wasn't doing much except checking out the city - it was just for fun, more than anything else, and jumped from one rooftop to the next, moving almost silently. He arrived on the same rooftop as Sarah with a very, very soft 'thud', and wondered if she'd notice him. He almost took it as a challenge to not be noticed, and moved towards the other side of the roof. He imagined that she'd be attentive enough to notice him after a few footsteps. She looked like she was the sort to.

Sarah allowed Teppic to go ahead of her - it was better than having him behind her if he decided to turn on her.

As they reached the door, Sarah heard footsteps on the stairs, and someone shouted, "Freeze!"

Teppic did as he was told and froze. Well, froze except the imperceptible motion of flicking the knife into his hand. He wouldn't kill the man - he hadn't been paid to, and certainly didn't want to. But he also knew how to defend himself, and didn't move for now.

Sarah stopped, and slowly turned to face the guards. The one who had told them to freeze had a gun aimed at her, and the other guard was pointing one at Teppic.

"Drop your weapons," the guard said. Slowly, Sarah lowered her gun to the floor, and as she straightened up, she inconspicuously slid a knife out of her boot. The guard nodded to the gun. "Kick it over here."

Instead of doing as he said, Sarah launched the knife at him. "Move!" she shouted at Teppic. The knife buried itself in the guard's throat, and, flailing, he fired his gun at the ceiling before he fell, clutching his throat. Sarah snatched her gun off the floor and got out of the way as fast as she could, in case the other guard tried to shoot her.

Teppic ducked to the floor and scrambled back to his feet to get out of there. He didn't really like that she'd just killed someone, but he wasn't one to judge. He'd grown up around the idea that killing wasn't always bad, but he wasn't sure that fitted in with it. Assassination could be justified. That just... seemed like murder, but in defence, he supposed. He didn't have time to question it too much right now. He just held his knife tightly, and pushed Sarah to one side when he heard the other weapon being fired behind him.

Sarah was very surprised to find herself pushed against the wall. She almost lashed out at Teppic, but quickly realized that he was trying to get her out of harm's way. It kind of threw her off her game, though, because she wasn't at all used to being pushed.

As fast as she could, she swung her gun around and fired off a shot, hoping to hit the guard despite not having had a chance to aim properly.

Teppic stood back, and finally got to see the weapon in action. It was quite terrifying in its force, and he realised that maybe he should have been a little less relaxed earlier. "Just get out. Don't waste time in a fire-fight."

Sarah didn't like leaving enemies behind her. They had a tendency to catch up and ruin things at really inconvenient moments. So she fired again, and this time the bullet struck the guard in the leg. She ran over to the guard, who was preoccupied with screaming and clutching his leg, and clocked him in the face. He fell, unconscious. "Alright, let's go."

She stepped through the door, and was greeted by something she really hadn't expected: a puppy. It was sitting on the floor, looking up at her sadly. "Okay, that's not what's supposed to be in here."

Teppic just stood and stared for a long moment at the dog, which came up and nuzzled against his leg. "We did all that... for a dog." He didn't actually know what else to say.

Sarah knelt down and scratched the puppy behind its ears before sliding its collar off. The GPS tracking device was fixed to the inside of the dog's collar. "Yeah. All that, for a dog."

"What were you expecting?"

"The man I'm supposed to kill." She picked the tracking device off the dog's collar before standing and looking at Teppic. "I'm an assassin too. At least, for the moment I'm an assassin."

"Ah." He paused and cocked his head to a side, "Self-taught assassin, I presume?" After another second's thought, he stared at her, "And were you going to pay me a cut?"

"Self-taught? I'm not self-taught," she snapped. That seemed to imply a lack of professionalism, and Sarah liked to think of herself as nothing if not professional.

As for the second question, she got the same paycheck every couple weeks, she didn't get paid per job. But since this was a black-ops mission, she couldn't exactly explain that she was a government employee that the CIA occasionally sent to off people. "You think rigging one tripwire qualifies you for a share of the profits?"

"They don't generally let women in the school, though." He shrugged, not really caring, "I think not asking questions might qualify me for a little more."

But blackmail wasn't really his style, and he just waved his hand vaguely, "Don't worry, it's not important, really."

"I didn't go to a school, but somebody taught me."

He was being surprisingly cool about the whole thing, so she said, "You did help. I'll see what I can do."
