some rooftop action for Teppic

Feb 17, 2012 18:23

There was something refreshing about standing on top of a building, by herself, no one else to worry about or bother her. She hadn't had a solo mission in way too long. Before going in, Sarah checked to make sure that the tracking device she had placed on the target hadn't moved. And it hadn't. Good. She slipped the GPS into the case clipped to her ( Read more... )

Teppic wasn't doing much except checking out the city - it was just for fun, more than anything else, and jumped from one rooftop to the next, moving almost silently. He arrived on the same rooftop as Sarah with a very, very soft 'thud', and wondered if she'd notice him. He almost took it as a challenge to not be noticed, and moved towards the other side of the roof. He imagined that she'd be attentive enough to notice him after a few footsteps. She looked like she was the sort to.

Teppic silently slipped inside and shut the door after them, having a quick look around the room to see if there were signs of anyone actually being in. He had a quick listen through the dark and nodded to her. "It's empty." He mouthed it, rather than saying it, and hoped she'd follow him.

Rather than following him, she grabbed him by the front of his shirt and stuck the gun under his chin. "Tell me who you are," she whispered. "The whole truth." She had to determine now whether or not she could trust this guy.

Teppic knew the meaning of a weapon under one's chin, and he swallowed nervously, but didn't move a muscle. Almost expertly, then gave her an entirely honest answer. He actually had nothing to hide, just things he'd prefer not to mention. "King Pteppicymon XXVIII of Djelibeybi - formerly so, anyway. I've also been trained as an assassin at the Assassin's Guild, but I do not practice the trade. I learned the climbing skills there, and simply like using them. I'm unarmed and I do not know what the weapon under my chin is, but you're quite liberal in pointing it around, I have to say." It was a little bit of snark and defiance, but nothing more.

And she'd thought he was weird before. The part about him being an assassin made sense, at least. "I don't have time for games." She moved her gun, pressing it against the dead center of his forehead. Yeah, she definitely liked to point the gun around. "Are you working for the guy who owns this house?"

He took another even breath and would have shook his head if she wasn't... pointing a weapon there. Maybe it had a dart inside. That would pierce his skull. Ow.

Even so, he managed to keep his cool, and said plainly and clearly, "No. I am in the employ of nobody currently. I have no contracts and will not have any in the forseeable future." The fact that he was honour bound never to disclose a client except to the inhumee... well.

Sarah decided to ignore everything he'd said about being king of someplace she'd never heard of, and just work with the idea that he was a freelance assassin who had wandered into the middle of her operation. Which was strange, but at least it was more or less plausible. She'd have to bring him in and try to work out what 'Djelibeybi' and 'the Assassin's Guild' meant after she'd completed the mission.

"Alright. Stick with me, understand?" She lowered the gun and stepped towards the door that led outside into the hallway. "And stay quiet."

He nodded, silently, and followed her to the door - making only minimal sound with his footsteps, and deciding to do what she said for now, because as he'd said - he was unarmed. There was no way he could effectively resist.

Sarah slipped out into the hallway, motioning for Teppic to follow her. She'd studied the blueprints of the house, and knew that they were looking for a room off a hallway one floor down from the one they were on. That was where the target should be, unless he'd moved while she was dealing with Teppic. She checked the GPS and, no, thankfully, the target hadn't moved.

Teppic followed on, now curious as to what she was up to. This could be interesting, or exciting, at least. He just wished he'd brought weapons, as then he could force some answers out of hers. Or defend himself in the event this turned out to be dangerous.

As they came up to the staircase, Sarah pressed her back against the wall so she could peer around the corner. The stairs were clear. She glanced back over her shoulder to make sure Teppic was following, and saw a doorknob further down the hall rattle. Either the guards had followed them down from the roof or someone else was coming. Either way, they needed to move faster. She grabbed Teppic by the wrist and pulled him down the stairs after her.

Teppic ran after her, but then thought for a minute, and pulled free from her. At the top of one set of stairs, in a matter of seconds, he tied one of his fine zip wires across and ran down after her. He caught up pretty quickly and heard the sound of tumbling behind him. Nice.

When he pulled out of her grip, Sarah instantly spun around, expecting him to either flee or attack her. She was surprised to see him rigging a tripwire instead, and by how fast he did it. "Impressive," she said, as she ran down the last few stairs and turned into the hallway.

He just gave her a smile and a cocky shrug of the shoulders, "It won't stop them. Where are we going?" Somehow it had become we.

Sarah pulled out the GPS again. The blinking red dot was straight ahead of them. "Right through there." She nodded to the door at the end of the hall.

As she started towards the door, she pulled out a slim knife and held it out to Teppic. "Here."

Teppic followed on and blinked at the knife, then took it. It was a sign of trust, and he knew it. He didn't know how dangerous it'd be, but he slotted the knife up his sleeve calmly and stepped through the door, "What should I expect?"
