some rooftop action for Teppic

Feb 17, 2012 18:23

There was something refreshing about standing on top of a building, by herself, no one else to worry about or bother her. She hadn't had a solo mission in way too long. Before going in, Sarah checked to make sure that the tracking device she had placed on the target hadn't moved. And it hadn't. Good. She slipped the GPS into the case clipped to her ( Read more... )

Teppic wasn't doing much except checking out the city - it was just for fun, more than anything else, and jumped from one rooftop to the next, moving almost silently. He arrived on the same rooftop as Sarah with a very, very soft 'thud', and wondered if she'd notice him. He almost took it as a challenge to not be noticed, and moved towards the other side of the roof. He imagined that she'd be attentive enough to notice him after a few footsteps. She looked like she was the sort to.

"Much appreciated." He took a deep breath and looked back down at the dog, "But you have a licence, yes?"

"Killing people isn't really something you get a license for. Unless you're James Bond."

He stared for a long moment, "You mean you're not a member of the Guild?" He didn't sound too happy about that at all.

"I've never heard of the Assassin's Guild," Sarah said lightly. "I don't think it has much influence..." Anywhere. "...in America."

"It virtually runs the city I live in. If you inhume someone without the Guild's permission... it's just murder." He frowned at her, then quickly changed the subject, as where was 'america'? "What are we going to do with this dog?"

A change of subject sounded like a good idea. Sarah looked down at the puppy, which was wagging its little tail and sniffing around their feet. Who knew how well the poor thing would be looked after here, if it would be looked after at all. But still, there could be more guards, or other obstacles, and Sarah wanted to have a good look around to make certain the target wasn't on the premises. A puppy would be very impractical. "We have to leave it."

"How are you going to find your target now?" He was not really moved by the cuteness of the dog.

Sarah was so used to working with Chuck that she half-expected Teppic to react with the same sad objections Chuck would have had to the abandonment of the puppy. It was almost a relief when he didn't, but at the same time... it kind of made her miss Chuck.

"The old fashioned way: search the place." And if he wasn't here, she'd start over from scratch tomorrow.

She raised her gun and, carefully, opened the door to the hallway. It was exactly the way they'd left it, complete with the guards lying in a heap. She yanked her knife out of the dead one's throat and wiped it off on his jacket before slipping it back into her boot. Then she checked the pulse of the one she'd shot in the leg. Slow, but steady. He would probably live.

"Do... Are you going to be needing help with that, or shall I leave you to manage your own hit?" He glanced down at the dead body and winced a little. No guild authorisation. Killing a guard was bad form. That was probably murder, but he didn't really feel like acting on it.

"You should stick with me," Sarah said. She still wanted to bring Teppic in and verify as much of his story as she could. "I've already mapped the building's security systems. You don't want to walk into anything blind."

Teppic raised an eyebrow, and then decided he might have to bring her to the guild, if he could. If being quite operative, in an unfamiliar city, but presumably whatever magic landed him here might also land him back home. "I would never walk into something blind, but very well."
