The SGA/Super Mario fusion you've all been waiting for

1) Happy Louis Riel day, everyone! It's a pretty new holiday, so I don't know what we're supposed to do on Louis Riel day, but there it is. So far in my life I have spent every single Louis Riel day running errands, watching bad tv, and knitting a scarf, so I guess there's my tradition right there ( Read more... )

ISN'T THERE ANOTHER PRINCESS, WITH BROWN HAIR? UHHHHH DAISY! I REMEMBER HER FROM THE MARIO PARTY GAMES

I THINK SOMEONE SHOULD BE DONKEY KONG. MAINLY JUST SO I CAN SING THE DONKEY KONG RAP.

ALSO: THOSE "EVIL" VERSIONS OF MARIO AND LUIGI, WARIO AND ...I DON'T REMEMBER THE OTHER ONE'S NAME, BUT HE WAS REALLY TALL & SKINNY.

oh man, I had forgot this whole cast of characters! probably because the last mario-related game I played was Yoshi's Island for SNES. Sadly, though, Super Mario Galaxy doesn't seem to have any of those peeps! So I cannot use them in my current casting scenario.

PS you can sing the donkey kong rap anytime you like. don't let the haters stop you.

I HAVE BEEN SUPER-TRAUMATIZED BY YOSHI SO I SPECIFICALLY DIDN'T MENTION HIM XD

WHEN I COPYPASTA'D YOUR WHOLE POST TO MY BFF (LOL, B/C SHE IS A HUGE MARIO NUT SO I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT OF HER WHEN I SAW THIS POST) SHE STARTED INSISTING THAT SOMEONE SHOULD BE YOSHI AND I REFUSED

SHE DID SUGGEST STARFOX FOR RONON AND LINK FOR TEYLA, BUT THEN I THOUGHT THAT SAMUS ARAN COULD MAKE A GOOD RONON, B/C SHE DOESN'T TALK A TON (RIGHT? I'VE NEVER PLAYED THE ACTUAL METEROID GAMES, BUT I HAVE STILL GOTTEN THIS IMPRESSION), AND SHE HAS A SUPER-KICKASS GUN.

BUT ALAS, IT IS TRUE THAT ALL THESE CHARACTERS NOT BEING IN THE CURRENT GAME WOULD MAKE IT MORE OF A BROAD CROSS-OVER

*TIMIDLY* HE'S BIGGER, STRONGER, AND FASTER TOO! HE'S THE FIRST MEMBER OF THE DK CREW :3

Aw, I love Yoshi! I wish he were in Super Mario Galaxy, that is one change that I would definitely make. Perhaps Yoshi is . . . a puddlejumper? It's odd, because he's more sentient than a puddlejumper, but less sentient than, say, a person, so he's hard to cast.

I don't know the Meteroid games either, so I'm afraid that those examples go over my head. Starfox and Link is a pretty cool idea, though!

Your brains AMAZE ME.

why do I not get the feeling that this is a compliment? :) It is true that my brains (our brains) are not like other brains.

Oh, no, it's totally a compliment. Really. I realize you have not yet met me and so cannot judge my sincerity in this, but please, take my word for it. Or, for corroborating evidence, let me remind you of the time I decided Ronon was Batman and John was Talia al Ghul. Sadly, I cannot find a link to the comment thread for the 10 Things I Hate About You fusion with Rodney's Sleater-Kinney mix, but rest assured that happened too.

oh, I know, I was kidding. :) I hate tone on the internet.

perhaps you can't find that link, but I can, because dude, that was you and me having that conversation. Remember? It was about how John Sheppard is always in the wrong genre, and then you spiraled it out to that hilarious fusion. here and here.

PS thanks for reminding of the time that John was Talia al Ghul. I was happy all over again!

We have not discussed it, but as you can probably guess I agree 100% with your theory re: Princess Peach and Bowser.

Re: fitting the whole team in, it is hard to imagine Rodney as Bowser, but it is TOTALLY POSSIBLE I SWEAR. Okay, so, mostly what he does (in this game at least) is technological -- he plays with gravity, and he makes electric thingies, and tries to take over whole galaxies! I have TOTALLY READ THAT SGA STORY.

also: AS IF you posted all that about SUPER MARIO GALAXY and didn't even mention the weird Lacanian mirror-Mario.

thingswithwings February 17 2009, 04:23:11 UTC
ahahaha Rodney as Bowser is kind of hilarious. I love the lengths you go to to try to work it in! I can see it when you're talking gravity and complex rube-goldberg-esque contraptions in his fortress and taking over the galaxy, but then when I try to bring it back down to "Rodney has a slave dungeon," I get the giggles. I CAN'T HELP IT BUDDY. Even though I wrote that story where Rodney fucks John with a dildo machine from hundreds of feet away.

AS IF you posted all that about SUPER MARIO GALAXY and didn't even mention the weird Lacanian mirror-Mario.OH WOW you are so right. I forgot about weird Lacanian mirror-Mario! Actually I have been thinking about it and have decided that he is a Freudian doppelganger. (OMG he's evil John, from . . . Doppelganger!) Now I think that it would be fun to have superheroes and villains whose backstories are all psychoanalytic, like, Cosmic Mario never learned as a child that his body ends, that he is not the world, and so he became the world, and the mirror in which the world is seen! And ( ... )

As everyone seems to have that whole SGA/Super Mario crossover covered, may I just say Gimme That Leverage Fic!!! I just bookmarked everything I could find and friended a bunch of comms and I feel a binge coming on.

Also Happy Louis Riel Day! I just wikipedia'ed him and dude, pretty cool and tragic. At least he got his own holiday. And between you and Kate Beaton i am remedying my sad lack of Canadian history.

I know, right? Leverage fic! Why is there not more of it! Or, at least, more stuff about the interesting characters and less about Nate. The one I'm writing is about Parker, aw.

I was born and raised in the Canadian prairies, so the version of history I was taught said that Riel was a great man whose cause was just and whose death was a stain on the fabric of Canadian history. And you know, that is what I still believe. But it's very interesting to note that friends of mine who grew up in southern Ontario did NOT get the same version of events, and were taught about treason and uprising while I was taught about rebellion and resisting oppressive systems of power. :)

If you are interested in learning more Canadian history but don't particularly care about, like, truth or accuracy, may I suggest (heartily) the Canadian Heritage Minutes? They are HILARIOUS. The acting is AMAZING. They're these little commercials that the government produces in an attempt to educate the public about Canadian history, so they're really interesting ( ... )

I also want the Leverage fic! whee!

But I second eruthros, in that I totally think Rodney can be Bowser. Bowser only *looks* evil but he's really not! He /wants/ to be defeated! He's bad with people and petty and arrogant but he lives to be thwarted. :D

(I love that game a lot. As a watcher. I sat near my brother while he collected all the stars and marveled over the use of 3D also. It's a great game!)

eruthros February 17 2009, 16:07:22 UTC
Exactly! He's petty and arrogant and he just wants attention. And sometimes he's even on Mario's side. In times of Great Trouble, Bowser and Mario fight together to save the castle!

ha, okay, okay, I give in - Rodney can be Bowser. He has a prickly outer shell, but once you get to know him, you find that he's a softie on the inside! Which works perfectly with John as Princess Peach, I must admit.

It's such a fun game! I wish there were more like it . . . the uber-seriousness of contemporary adventure games like Final Fantasy, and the intense creepiness of super-realistic war games (can you IMAGINE playing those Iraq war games? my god) turn me off of many of the other options.
