The SGA/Super Mario fusion you've all been waiting for
1) Happy Louis Riel day, everyone! It's a pretty new holiday, so I don't know what we're supposed to do on Louis Riel day, but there it is. So far in my life I have spent every single Louis Riel day running errands, watching bad tv, and knitting a scarf, so I guess there's my tradition right there.

2) did I tell you that I'm writing Leverage fic? I am. And if I post about it publicly, perhaps I will be able to shame myself into finishing it.
3) So, another thing I am posting about right now is that eruthros and I have been playing SUPER MARIO GALAXY to the exclusion of most other freetime activities. This is because she bought a Wii a few weeks ago. !!! I swear it is the greatest game pretty much of all time. The continually inventive and challenging use of 3-D funtimes makes me happy. Plus OMG bee!mario is pretty much the cutest thing I've ever seen in my entire life including puppies.
And so we're playing SUPER MARIO GALAXY, and of course we already share the hypothesis that Luigi and Mario aren't brothers so much as "brothers," by which we mean, "gay lovers," and that obv. the only reason Mario would put up with Luigi's antics is that he gives great head etc. And I haven't discussed this part with eruthros, so can't speak for her opinion, but I have personally always assumed that Princess Peach and Bowser have a hot bdsm thing going on (he takes her to his dungeon? seriously?) and that in fact the reason she keeps getting kidnapped over and over is so that they can play out convoluted fantasy D/s scenarios.
So after discussing this - not the part about the bdsm dungeon, but the part about Mario/Luigi OTP, eruthros and I decided that IN FACT, LIKE MOST THINGS, you can make this an SGA fusion in which John is Mario and Rodney is Luigi (he just gets so fascinated by watching all the astronomical phenomena that he stops paying attention to the world around him and gets kidnapped! And the Grand Stars you collect in this game are like ZPMS, and seriously they're off exploring the galaxy together, it all works. Also the Toad Brigade is made of scientists and led by Zelenka, trufax) and actually now that I think about it, since Luigi is always getting kidnapped, I guess that Princess Peach and Bowser aren't the only ones playing out a little dungeon scenario.
OTOH, maybe this fusion would make more sense if like, Rodney was Bowser, John was Princess Peach, and then Teyla was Mario? Or Ronon was Mario? The problem is that Teyla and Ronon are both too competent and goal-oriented to be Luigi. Also as if Rodney is Bowser. I mean, I like it when he ties John up and all, but even I have limits of plausibility. Maybe Ronon is Mario, Rodney is Luigi, John is Princess Peach (that feels right somehow) and Teyla is . . . again, Bowser is just not working here. Rodney is Mario, John is Princess Peach, Teyla and Ronon are . . . Link and Zelda? I got nothing.
Okay, this fusion has crumpled in my hands. And it started off so promising! Listen, if anyone can set me straight on this issue, I'd be much obliged. I WANT TO WRITE SGA FIC WHILE I PLAY THIS GAME. Seriously, we were up until 3:30 the other night trying to like, not fall through a giant piece of nougat into a black hole. And then last night we surfed on a manta ray through a loop-de-loop of river in the sky. AND you can tickle the penguins. There are penguins! It is the best game of all time.
