[Leia is amused by by his determination to not lose to the food. She's also trying hard not to comment on the nonexistant dubious fashion sense displayed by the new tunic. At least it'll keep him warm]

And Leia is there she's taller than she looked on the screen does she think he's stupid? he doesn't want to look like an idiot ow he can barely handle this taste and he thinks the inside of his mouth is freezing chew faster but don't look too hurried!
It's because the food is so piquant that he's blushing furiously by the time he manages to swallow and wipes his mouth. Yes. That is the reason.]
I don't want it to melt. [There's already an orange pool at the bottom of the bowl.] I can't waste ice. [He wrinkles his nose.] It's awfully hot, though.
Reply
You can waste ice, you know. It's not as precious a commodity here as it is on Tattoine. [Sits down next to him] Before Revan pulled me here, I was on a planet that was covered in ice and snow. As much of it as you've got desert where you come from.

[She is sitting next to him! Luke tries to subtly sit up taller.]
Yeah? Did you have to live in a cave of it? [The idea of a cave made of solid water is gleefully bizarre, to Luke.]
Reply
Not exactly. More rock than ice, it was a huge set of caverns cut into a mountain range, which we adapted into a base. I did see see some caves that were made entirely of ice elsewhere on the planet, however. Some of our scouts brought back images of ice caves large enough to hold an entire palace.

Oh. Still, a base on a solid water world... I wish I could see it. I want to see it all. Everything.

There's a lot of everything out there, that might take you a while. Meanwhile, what have you found here? It's certainly different from Tattooine, yes?
Reply
I've got time. Tenel Ka thinks I'll be around when I'm in my thirties.
It's very different. [He looks up. There's nothing to see but a couple distant speeder's lights. Not even a moon is visible.] You can't ever see the stars here. [He sounds rather small when he says that, and then makes the effort to rebound.] But you can see people from all over the galaxy, and the things they're selling. This is a very, very old city, and even if they've built over and changes most of it, you can tell it's not new.

[laugh] Luke, I'm sure you'll be around longer than that. I might not know for certain, but it's hard to imagine anything stopping you. [if we could harness that enthusiasm and turn it into a warp drive, light-speed would become the slow way to travel]
I know what you mean. [Leia looks sympathetic; she misses the stars too] You could see the stars clearly on Hoth, when it wasn't snowing. And before that I was on spaceships, traveling...it's strange to not be able to see the stars at all. Do you think we could get some friendly pilot to give us a ride? [Perhaps if she asks Han very, very nicely...]
There is an impressive amoutn of variety to this city, it's true. It's not uniform at all.

I hope so! But when I go back... I can't leave until my aunt and uncle let me. I'm not just going to leave without saying goodbye. My father did that. It's not honest.
Argh, last time I was on a spaceship we had to turn back because the engines failed. I fixed them, but people were scared. ...I want to try again.
On Tatooine, most of the planet is the same. We have sandier areas, and rockier ones. There are places where people set up farms or spaceports or towns, and places left to the wilds, and there are some places where it does rain and the rain does hit the ground, rarely, but just in general...

No. [Sad smile from Leia; she misses her parents] No, family's too important for that.
You want to try riding a spaceship again, or fixing one? [Teasing]
Most planets are more varied, you know. Tattooine is mostly desert, and Hoth was mostly ice, but many planets have diverse landscapes. Some continents that are jungles, and others that are more civilized. My home planet had grasslands, mountain ranges, and seas. There was a lot of variety there.
Reply
Both. ...Though not at the same time again, I hope.
I've read about that, the environments. [He picked up on the sadness, the past tense.] ...What happened?
Reply
[Leia considers fudging the truth, claiming that she used that tense just because of the flung-into-the-past part, but...this is Luke. And even at thirteen, he can be pretty perceptive]
It was destroyed by the Empire.
Reply
Oh.
Like Caamas? [Right after the Clone Wars it was razed from orbit, partly because of the Jedi temple there and the highly Jedi-favoring outlook of the Caamasi. The biggest refugee community, including a Jedi in hiding who was a close friend of Bail's, went to Alderaan.] - I'm sorry.

[She doesn't say it's all right, because it isn't, but she gives him a weak smile] Well, the battle station responsible was destroyed, in the end. So it won't happen again. [She considers mentioning that it was destroyed by older-him, with help from Han, but lets it go for now]
