Zechs wasn't sure what to get anyone for Lunasa... He didn't like the holiday. In fact, he didn't like a lot of holidays. And because he was brand new to the ship before a holiday, he had a sudden urge to buy the crew each something small. But, he didn't know what to get anyone. It was frustrating. So, he had ended up just getting the crew something related to their position on the ship.

He was now going to drop off something for one of the Boatswains men. He knocked on the office door, grumbling under his breath. He hated holidays with a passion and decided that a good stiff drink would be in order.

Hijikata looked up from his papers when the knock sounded, frowning just a little. Now who was coming at this time of the day, especially given what day it was today - Lunasa. Everyone (okay, so most of the crew) should have been out already to celebrate...

Well, it wouldn't hurt now, the boatswain supposed as he grunted and looked back down at his paperwork, munching on another senbei cracker before calling aloud. "Come in; door's unlocked."

He opened the door and stepped into the room. He was still in his uniform, something which was a constant for him when he was on board a ship or on an assignment. "Lt. Commander Toshirou?" Zechs asked carefully, not wanting to offend anyone. He was very careful about first impressions and how people viewed him.

The boatswain looked up from his papers again, gulping down another senbei cracker and ignoring the burning sensation in his throat as he looked at who had entered the room - it wasn't anyone he recognized... most likely a newcomer into the ship then. That could explain the name confusion, since his name was in the traditional order of placement after all.

"Hijikata," he grunted out first through the puff of cigarette in-between his lips. "My name's in the other order. Hijikata's my surname." Not that I belong there any more anyway, his mind decided to add on which caused a scowl to cross his face for a moment before it disappeared. "You're... the newest quartermaster?" the man harbored a guess. Goodness knows how much they needed one, especially their only active one was that brat of an officer.

A gift. Really, why did she do such things? She knew the reputation of the boatswain, but yet in her hands she held a small gift. Trying to smile, she knocked on the door.

"Uhm, excuse me, sir? I uh, brought you a gift," Maka said, standing in the doorway, a wrapped package held in front of her. She just wanted to make friends and get to know the officers onboard.

Hijikata sighed as he stashed away the gift he received, picking up his papers again with the intention to finish them by evening so that he wouldn't be bothered by them the next morning, especially given how he'd have to be at Kondo's later...

Then he heard another knock and a not-all-unfamiliar voice coming from the doorway (could people just close the fucking door for once?) and the boatswain looked up to see a young girl there - she looked rather familiar... then he noticed the package. Great... more gifts. It would be rude of him to turn her away now though... "Come in," he grunted not at all happily, a puff of smoke coming from his cigarette. "And close the door behind you."

A white gloved hand reached behind her and closed the door, as per Hijikata's order, and the girl stepped into the room. She was so sure of her gift pleasing the boatswain. She knew he was going to love it, so she only smiled and moved to place it on the desk in front of him.

Inside a medium sized box was a basket with different varieties of Mayo from around the continent, along with a small mayo chocolate cake. She had noticed that the boatswain had a little thing for mayo and had planned this gift well. She was such a teacher's pet in school, so gifts for her superior officers only made sense.

"I uh, I hope you like it sir!" she said with a genuine smile, hands clasp behind her back.

The boatswain raised an eyebrow at the girl, clearly skeptical at the gift before pausing when he opened it. Mayonnaise. The girl had actually gotten him something good unlike that other bastards for once. This was... well. Hijikata really didn't know what to say, actually - he was pretty surprised.

"..." the man looked at the gifts for a long while before closing the box and gently placing it by the side. "Thank you."

Knocking upon the door to the grumpy boatswain's office, the cheerful mechanic had to wonder why on earth did he wish to bother that gloomy Hijikata. The poor man was ordered by the First Mate to remain on the ship during Lunasa, such news that originally made Kiros laugh at the angered entry the lieutenant commander left over the Network! But for some reason, Kiros didn't like the idea of Hijikata being the only one remaining on the ship so he decided to come spread some Lunasa cheer instead!

With a tall bottle of scotch in one hand and some Lunasa oriented sweets in the other, the mechanic opened the door slightly to peek at the miserable soul who sat at the desk. "I hope you have glasses!" Kiros cheered just as he wandered right into Lt. Commander Hijikata's office.

"No one should look this grumpy during the holidays!"

[ooc: Kiros cares after all...]

...oh, hell no. Not him again. Hijikata looked up from his paperwork with an evident scowl on his face towards the mechanic who had entered his office. He certainly didn't need the idiot, of all people to come and disturb his relative peace... the boatswain suppressed the urge to growl and be his general snarky self for now - it was Lunasa, after all.

"Tch," he snorted out as he went back to his paperwork, only briefly casting a glance to the newcomer and chewing a bit on the end of his cigarette (that was still lit and smoking, as always - it helped him calm his nerves. Somewhat). "What are you doing here for anyway? I'd figure a person like you would rather be away from the ship during shore leave."

[OOC: Awwwwwww. Hijikata is grateful, even if he doesn't show it much. orz;;;]

"Oh, sir! You are so welcoming!" The mechanic said in a overly sarcastic and cheerful tone! He could careless about the foul glare that Hijikata was giving him, especially since it is Lunasa! "Come now, you have been locked in this office all day!" Kiros frowned at the lieutenant as he put the tall bottle of scotch upon the desk.

"Why not loosen up a little and stop staring aimlessly at your paperwork for once!" Kiros asked with a wink as he searched along Hijikata's office for a glass or two.

"Besides, you work too hard anyways! Right, sir?"

Again, another annoyed snort came from the boatswain as he glanced back down at his paperwork, determined to finish it before evening came and Kondo would come and drag him away for the yearly celebrations. And Hijikata could never turn down any request from his lifesaver after all. The man then stared at the bottle of scotch in front of him and scowled slightly. Today was the last day that he wanted to drink anything now, damnit. Not with what he had to do tonight.

"I'm not 'staring aimlessly at my paperwork', as you put it," the man growled irritably. "I'm working." And for good reason too - Lunasa was just one of those times he was reminded of the time back at the dojo; a time he'd rather forget. "...and I'm working with good reason as well, mechanic," he added on with a deeper scowl at the man now rifling through his things, apparently in search for glasses.
