[CLOSED TO THE TWO IDIOTS] mayovice July 22 2010, 16:35:44 UTC
Having left Phoenix (and the journal he had 'borrowed' from the reporter) back in the mess hall, Hijikata wasted no time in heading up to the deck. At the very least, his swords were with him, so didn't have to waste time in going back to his room (which was very far from the deck) and pick them up. He didn't need to give Date even more reasons to laugh at him, damnit.

Arriving at his destination, the boatswain wasted no time in going right up to where his rival (for a lack of a better term) was awaiting for him. Nine years, and he looked just the same as always - from the helmet to the six swords, they were still all there. Some things just never changed, and Hijikata felt he could deal with this.

"Date Masamune!" the younger man started, his own twin swords clinking along with him as he stepped forward to face the elder properly. "Today will be the day where we will finally settle our long tiebreaker! I'll show you how I've improved over the years!"

Heh. The young boy had not changed over the years. His words were still as sharp as his fangs although unlike the last time, war and turmoil has made Date a stronger fighter. He's not one to back down with such empty words.

By the time Hijikata arrived on deck, he was already at position, leaning forward with his horns on target to the demon he longed to kill.

"I won't show mercy this time, Hijikata!"

Hijikata was, of course, unflinching as ever - when you lived to fight against someone like Date Masamune, not a lot of things can really faze you after that. Not to mention the fact that if he did flinch under him, it'd possibly mean a lot of bad things. No, Date was nothing more to him than a person he needed to defeat one day - the other was strong and Hijikata knew that well. Defeating Date would mean that he was a step closer to being stronger and doing his duty to Kondou.

"I'd be disappointed if you did, Date," the man returned, voice firm and confident as his right hand rested onto the hilt of his main sword - while he had been practising with dual wielding, it wasn't as good as he had hoped it would be yet. But still, he was going up against Date and his six swords...

The boatswain reached to draw out both of his blades, readying them as he shifted into a stance. "I've been waiting for the day to defeat you, dokuganryu. Let's get this started!"

Now, wasn't that arrogant of Hijikata. He sure did arrive with much confidence to draw two of his swords at the same time.

"It's an honor," Date replied, rushing towards his opponent as he drew his sword out. "LET'S PARTY!"

SPECTATOR THREAD NUMBER ONE isntthatwright July 22 2010, 18:27:14 UTC
It had started out as a normal day. Completely normal -- up until he'd found that network post in the mess hall and Hijikata had hijacked the difference engine and made that series of posts. With his journal. Phoenix was thanking his lucky stars that, one, the posts were filered to the Amestris and not public, and two, that no one could possibly mistake Hijikata's voice for his own.

After the man had stormed out of the mess hall, Phoenix had stood, shell-shocked and clutching his journal, for several seconds. Then, still half-dazed, the reporter followed Hijikata outside, intent on finding out what the hell was going on here. Who was this guy, who'd gotten such a response from Hijikata?

He stood well away from the actual fighting, backed up against the ship's railing. This man -- Date Masamune -- looked certifiably insane. At least that explains how they know each other.

Katsura had heard all of the shouting, and despite the fact that he was a high-ranking officer, the grand sum of his reaction to it was to wander out on deck where the two were apparently going to meet. He stood there watching, arms crossed, looking rather bored with the whole affair.

"What do you think the chances of them killing each other are?" He asked, turning slightly to the spiky-haired reporter who also seemed to be there to watch the debacle unfold.

Phoenix recognized the man by sight, recalling that he had also been on the Victoria II. A lieutenant, if he remembered right, by the name of Katsura.

"I wish I knew," he replied, watching the fight. He wasn't sure how this man could be so calm about the whole thing --

that man was fighting with three...no, six swords

"Even if they do both survive -- what exactly makes him think it's a good idea to pick a fight with the Vohemaro representative?" He was worried, yes. Phoenix was very worried for Hijikata. Fighting in the line of duty was one thing. Picking a fight with a crazy man? That was something else.

Katsura could remain perfectly calm because he was probably lacking in just as much sense as the two lunatics who were currently duking it out. He had to give Date credit--that was an impressive number of swords to be wielding so casually.

"What makes you think Hijikata possesses any sort of sense to begin with?" Honestly, it made perfect sense that he'd picked a fight with the Vohemaro. That was exactly what an idiot would do.

Havoc had heard the screaming over the network, and decided to poke his head up to the upper deck to take a closer look. From the little he know of Hijikata (after talking to the guy, and other then the fact that he was Mustang's little brother...) the guy was pretty damn quiet; to have him react so violently over the difference engine... well. Better pissed at this other guy then him.

It had been near impossible to miss that shouted argument over the journals - and even with the switch in frequencies, Rou's voice had been unmistakable. The shouting coming from the deck of the Amestris was pretty easy to catch, too, and it had been more of a sense of morbid curiosity rather than concern for Toushirou that had drawn him out to watch this...farce. It was proving rather hard to resist the urge to bury his face in his hands.

Ukitake was far from the only person who noticed the chaos. Edgeworth stood on the deck, his arms crossed and his face twisted in a semi-permanent scowl. He watched with barely concealed rage, as per the captain's order, and waited for something to go wrong.

It was hard to miss the familiar grey hair and stiff shoulders, and Ukitake took a step over to stand by his former student. "Commander," he said wryly. "Come to watch the excitement as well?" He nodded in the reaction of the ongoing swordfight-slash-shouting-match.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world," he drawled. "After all, who can resist a potential international incident in the making?"
