Characters: Rufus and anyone who wants to say hello Content: A bit of exploring and introductions Setting: Here and there on the Silvana Time: Shortly after Rufus's first journal post
Well, all the guns checked out fine, and Hinamori just had one more to go. It hadn't taken that long, either, so once she was done giving the last one a look-over, she'd have a lot of free time on her hands. Of course, that posed the question of what to do with the rest of the day... maybe she could have a late lunch or something.
Her voice brought Rufus back to the present conversation again - his mind has started to wander off into contemplating about what exactly one could do with a creature that bred exponentially, and what the best way to get rid of it would be. Getting distracted like that was not a good habit. He shrugged slightly. "Well, that's something. I suppose the ship's officers handle matters like those, mostly?"
"Not a bad way of doing things," Rufus remarked. "Provided you can trust those working under you, of course." Not something he did easily, but he had been facing the necessity of delegation rather frequently lately.
"Well, I think we're generally pretty alright," said Hinamori cheerfully. "There are some people who I'm not sure about, but... I think that's the same with everything, isn't it?"
Rufus nodded. "You have to know who you can trust with what, as well. For instance, I'm fairly certain nobody on this ship is going to try and kill me in my sleep. But I wouldn't let most of them do my accounts. It's something of a balancing act."
"Nor would I," Rufus agreed, thinking privately that that was something of an understatement. "Knowing who you can trust with what task is a sign of a good leader."
"Well, like most skills, it takes practice," Rufus said. "Though being able to remember what you've learned about people helps." He didn't add that he had been finding it increasingly difficult to keep everything straight as well, lately.
"I'll definitely agree there," said Hinamori. "I wouldn't be half as good at magic as I am if I hadn't worked at it."
She'd always had talent, but... it seemed like a lot of people had been born grades ahead of her. It was funny how that worked... she wasn't bitter about it, because she enjoyed work, but still.
