Characters: Rufus and anyone who wants to say hello Content: A bit of exploring and introductions Setting: Here and there on the Silvana Time: Shortly after Rufus's first journal post
Well, all the guns checked out fine, and Hinamori just had one more to go. It hadn't taken that long, either, so once she was done giving the last one a look-over, she'd have a lot of free time on her hands. Of course, that posed the question of what to do with the rest of the day... maybe she could have a late lunch or something.
"Mm, yeah," Hinamori agreed. "Or you could just get lucky, but you can't count on that every time."
She was pretty used to these sorts of questions by now. Rather than feeling bored, though, she felt a certain pride in them-she'd worked pretty hard to get to this level of skill.
"Well, I follow the kidou school of magic. It's basically... there are two different kinds of spells that you can use, right? There are attack spells, which are... self explanatory, and there are binding spells, which you can either use to keep something still so you can hit it with an attack spell or some other kind of attack or to nonlethally prevent someone from attacking you."
Rufus nodded. She seemed excited to talk about it - pride in her skills, maybe. Well, he could understand that feeling. Good. It was always far more interesting to hear about subjects from people who actually cared about them - textbook recitation might tell you more on the surface, but they provided no insight into the person. "Do you specialize in one of the two types, then?"
"I think I'm alright with both, although I prefer to use binding spells," Hinamori said with a shrug. She didn't like killing or injuring people unless she absolutely had to. "Although I'm also pretty good at fire-related attack spells."
Rufus gave her a smile. "That must be quite a sight. You'll have to show me your skills sometime, then." His interest wasn't entirely feigned - expanding his knowledge was a goal he always worked towards, particularly when it came to the skills of other people. And magic...well, he hadn't been lying when he said he wasn't very familiar with it. It wasn't exactly an everyday skill.
Rufus raised an eyebrow quizzically. "Anything weird?" There were always rumors, of course, but one could only put so much credence in fourth- or fifth-hand stories.
"Yeah... and they were a little dangerous if a few of them ended up in your closet, or something," Hinamori said, cocking her head slightly. "I mean, it was pretty easy to get buried under them."
"They did!" said Hinamori insistently. "I... don't know what kind of animal they were, but they looked like little balls of fuzz. I... maybe they were some sort of magical creature?"

"They must have been - that doesn't sound like a natural life cycle." He wasn't really a scientist, but his father had made sure his education was broad, and multiplying to the point of filling whole storage lockers...that was a bit extreme. "How did you get rid of them in the end?"
"Really?" Rufus didn't bother hiding the slight surprise in his voice. "That seems a bit...disorganized. Though I suppose if you were high enough up, you could guarantee they'd all die."
"Well, they might have done something different," said Hinamori, confusion audible in her voice. "I'm... not sure. I just know they were taken care of."

"A pretty long time ago, someone brought a pet on and it... multiplied. A lot. It... was really problematic, haha."
