Since 'Reno Harkin' wasn't in the race (nor were any of his aliases), Reno told anyone who asked that he was Reno, in charge of testing Eyeshield's plane and watching it, and whatever else pilots did to their planes. Eyeshield 21 was not allowed to leave the ship, in case someone tried to kidnap him (or something, Hiruma made that bullshit up, not Reno).

He leaned against his plane, watching everybody that passed by.

There was something about this plane race that made Falco eager. Eager to race, of course, but also eager to meet his fellow racers, which led Falco to the common hangar. So these were the people he'd be racing against. All kinds of people from all kinds of places. Falco just hoped they were good.

It was then he spotted the redhead leaning against a plane. With nothing better to do, Falco went over to start up a conversation.

"This one yours?" He asked, gesturing to the plane.

"My plane, I'm not piloting it though." No, he really didn't care that Hiruma told him to deny ownership of the plane. Dammit, it was his plane, and he was proud of her.

Even if she needed a complete body overhaul. She ran good, though.

"Eyeshield 21, heard of him? He's the pilot flyin' her," Reno explained. "You flying in the race?"

Falco had indeed heard about Eyeshield 21, the mysterious pilot representing the 4423. How could he not? Half the people in town was talking about the damn guy. Yet, nobody had actually seen him. Falco would bet the guy was playing up the mystery angle for all it was worth.

So this guy was from the famed pirate ship, huh? Not that Falco cared. This was a plane race, and what Falco cared about was who could fly and who couldn't.

"Yeah, I'm flying," he answered. "You're not? You look like you're a good pilot."

Hibari was over in his own corner at the moment, doing his own fixing. He and Kara had talked earlier that morning, smoking, catching up on what had happened since the last time they had met.

Suffice to say, they had also not-really-joked about kicking each other's asses in air, but that was normal. Either way, the dark-haired pilot was off on his own again, smoking away, checking the readings on his own machine. The temptation to go back up in the air was rather strong, especially with how noisy things were down in the hangar.

Sara made a face as she checked her own plane. She still felt uneasy after the talk about Grabera and everything, but she had Emily, which calmed her down considerably. "Do you always have to do that, Mr. Hibari? Smoke while you're working, I mean."

"Do you always ask such useless questions?" Hibari returned, with a glance and a raised eyebrow in Sara's direction.

She couldn't help but twitch and send a glare in his direction. "It was just a question, you know. Do you?"

Souji had put off trying out his new plane as long as he could, but it was getting too close to go time now. And he would feel awful if all of Abe and Kara's work went to waste because he was being a coward.

The young helmsman-come-pilot strode into the hanger, trying to look confident.

On the other hand, Pip was currently quite the busy man - Apache had only just arrived yesterday after all, and the races were coming soon. There wasn't much time before it would start and the mercenary was more than pumped up to fly in it now, since his plane had finally arrived.

It had been a while since he last saw it, but it was as fine as ever - a glossy black coating and design for speed rather than power (though it did pack quite the punch) and high maneuverability that made it one hell of a plane to fly in. Though in exchange the heat output of the engine was absolutely terrible; he was going have to keep an eye on the temperature gauge to ensure that the engine wasn't going to explode on him anytime soon.

He had been in the cockpit polishing up the instruments there when Souji appeared, and the quartermaster immediately perked up once he spotted the helmsman and waved while shouting a greeting. "'ey zere, Souji!"

Pip wasn't the only one who had spotted Souji coming. Kara grinned at the younger man the moment he passed, and waved as well.

Souji grinned, showing as much bravo and charm as he could muster, though it looked faker than normal. Not that his smiles were always 100% honest.

"Pip! Kara!" he waved at both of them, jogging over and giving Pip's plane a nice once over. "Pretty..."

Kensei was at the moment taking the time off to give his own plane a good wash after the recent events that had taken place with it. From sabotage to finding Shinji and then with everything else... well, it was safe to say that his plane was pretty much one of his best companions, aside from the (annoying but still endearing) other Vaizards.

Rub rub rub... it was pretty obvious that his plane needed a good wash, especially after seeing the amount of washcloth that he needed to go through as he gave the wings and body a good rub.

Ichigo had wandered down to the plane area to scope out the competition, and to check on his plane. He wasn't afraid of sabotage, not really. Ichigo wasn't one of the favorites to win, a fact that he was completely fine with. That just meant it'd be more of a shock when he left them all in the dust. He was also from a smaller ship, one that wasn't involved in the Vohemaro-Ivonan rivalry, so he didn't have to worry about zealous patriots ( ... )

The Vaizard had been concentrating more on washing his plane rather than what was going on around him until he felt that presence again - it wasn't any of the others; he'd recognize them in a jiffy after being stuck with each other for so long. No, it was from none of them - and with this strange familiarity, it could only mean--

Kensei paused in his work, turning around to face that orange head who Sakata had been fighting. He knew the Winding Way was here of course, but he had no idea they were taking part in the races... or maybe there was, but he didn't notice. Either way, it didn't really matter; the fact was that the kid was here.

Keeping his own thoughts to himself for now, the silver-haired man gave the other a questioning look. "You're joinin' the race too, kid?"

Again with the "kid" business. This guy had gray hair, though, so maybe he was just a really spry old guy? Ichigo didn't know, and decided to let it slide for now. "Y'think I'd be here if I wasn't?" Anyone who didn't have a plane here had to get through a couple of security guards.

He looked back at Kensei's plane. "Not bad." It was a solid enough craft. It didn't look like anything special, but then again, planes' appearances could be deceiving sometimes. He wanted to ask what kind of engine it had, and other questions, but that would probably come off as spying on the competition.

Can has Hibari? abeator June 21 2009, 06:35:43 UTC
Planes, planes, planes -- if there was one thing Abe was good at, it was doing anything with planes. The upcoming races wasn't going to stop him from experimenting a little here and there on the engine, although...

Hm. This kind of engine modification wouldn't work on a bigger plane like this. Perhaps Starbuck's? Tape measure in hand, he walked over to Thrace's plane to measure it.

...Weird kid, that one. Hibari spotted the boy from his area as he smoked (as always), and wondered what he intended to do.

It wasn't long before he asked for himself. In his own way.

"I doubt Starbuck's going to like you messing around with her bird."

Abe looked up at the stranger, wondering for a moment if he was a pilot in the race, too, before shrugging and resuming his work.

"I'm just measuring. We're in the same ship."

"Hm."

Hibari watched the other for a moment longer, just to see if he really DID know what he was doing. If he didn't, it was simple enough, walking over and removing him from the vicinity.
