Phoenix had just been heading back to the ship after a day of exploring, when he heard a voice.

Huh? Where's that voice coming from....? he wondered, looking around for its source. All he saw was a tiny cat, eating something on the ground.

......wait a moment. He'd heard about a talking cat that Major Hijikata had all but adopted. Phoenix stared. No, it couldn't be....!

If Chi noticed Phoenix, she made no show of it. Instead she stood up, grabbing the biggest, bestest hunk of the meat, and starting to trot off. There was a bounce in her step and a song in her heart... proven by the humming she was doing around the meat. If one listened closely one could tell it was a garbled and off-tune rendition of the "Steel Samurai" theme.

....he'd definitely heard her humming. Normal cats didn't make sounds like that. What was she doing out here?

"H-hey!" Phoenix called out. "Hello? Uh....here, kitty kitty!" he tried. He felt distinctly foolish.

Her ears shot up, and Chi turned, her nose twitching. She knew that smell! He was from the Victoria!... though she couldn't for the life of her remember his name.

"Hi!" She called back after shallowing her meat.

Harlequin spots a cat and - AH! - ducks out of sight . . . hopefully before being spotted, though he's not sure he managed it. =S

The sudden movement caught the little kitten's eye, and she looked up from her meal. Was... that a wooden man?!

Oh, this was interesting! She jumped up and ran over to where he was hiding, hopping to see more.

Ooops! Spotted . . . and now cornered! Yes, this had been EVER such a good idea, hadn't it, Quin?! TT~TT

He straightened and began to edge out of the hollow between debris he'd ducked into, ready to run if it proved necessary - he hoped not! - as he offered the little cat a tentative grin. "Ah . . . good afternoon..." At least it was young and small - he had a better chance.

"Hi!" She said back, never thinking at a cat talking to a puppet might be odd to any passer-bys. Heck, seeing a woodman was only interesting to her. Not scary or weird at all.

Nobody noticed a single tiny kitten except for Sebastian. The feline had made several posts before over the network, and the demon had been charmed by her innocence, most of all her delicate kitten-like tendencies. When she had posted earlier that she was escaping, how could he not help from searching for her as he shopped?

His sharp eyes caught her little figure about to snack on a very unsanitary morsel of food, and he tsked quietly. What was her caretaker teaching her, following these bad habits? He would have to correct it somehow in his short meeting with her. Striding over, he knelt and held out a hand to her, smiling in a mostly uncharacteristic sweet way.

"Hello little one. I don't think you should be eating that."

"Huh? Why not?" She chirped, looking up and tilting her head. It took a few long moments for her to recognize the voice from the journals, but as she did her eyes widened and her whole body shook with excitement.

"I know you!!!" She squealed, jumping up and running over to rub at his hand.

Sebastian chuckled to himself when she recognized him, letting his hands pet gently over the fur of her head. She was a little mussed up and dirty...he would have to fix that as well. He had only spoken with her owner on one occasion, and he had seemed a decent enough caretaker-- but to not give this precious one any sort of hygienic attention was simply inexcusable. Felines, especially ones of her fine caliber and breeding, deserved the very best, and the demon would see to it that she received that care.

"I am so delighted that you remember me, little one. Chi, your name was?" She was tiny enough to hold in his two hands, so he extended them to her, offering a platform for her to step onto so he could bring her into his arms. "It isn't a good idea to eat that because it is quite unsanitary and unappetizing. I will supply you with fare that will much better suit your palate, I promise you."

She tilted her head, blinking. She only understood a few of the bigger and more cultured words Sebastian spoke. But seeing as most of her language skills were inheritanted from the mana stones, from Rou, or picked up from the Network it was understandable.

But she understood enough to know he wanted to pick her up and maybe feed her. So she was more then willing to walk up onto his hands. "Okay!"

Another day at the plane races venue, another walk around town--

Was that Hijikata's kitten? The one who his twin brother had tricked into believing that he - Roy Mustang, of all people! - was an evil pyromaniac? Roy came over, and, upon closer inspection, confirmed his suspicions.

"Chi, shouldn't you be on the ship?"

Might as well try to salvage his reputation now, ludicrous as that may seem. Chi was, after all, a cat.

Chi's ears perked at the sound of Roy's voice, and she looked up happily, her nose twitching. It sounded like Rou, and smelled like Rou...

Until the smell of sulfur hit her nose.

"Fireman!!" She yowled, jumping up from her meal, all her fur standing up at odd angles. She hopped back a few steps, hissing in terror. "Fireman! I don't wanna be ashes!!! Help!"

...Yep, that was predictable enough.

"I'm not going to set you on fire, you know."

"Nuh-uh! Tosh'rou said so!" She yelled, outright bouncing back and forth on her toes. She would scare him away! And if she got close she would claw him really hard!

Before I head off to bed---

It was a general rule of thumb that Hijikata hated pretty much everyone in the world, but today was exceptional. The boatswain swore to himself that he was going to utterly main and kill the brat once he had found Chi and brought her back to the ship - he wasn't going admit it aloud, but he had grown a bit... appreciative of the kitten. She had brought about a strange sense of... something into him which he never had until now. Not to mention he did promise to find her mother... and until then, it was his responsibility to protect her and ensure her safety.

Which was why he was currently in the bazaar now, walking about and trying to find a kitten in the sea of people while Lucied was trotting alongside him and trying not to get lost in the moving sea of legs. The human cursed as he glanced about, the usual scowl on his face as he turned around and suddenly shouted out in his best voice over the crowd.

"Oy, cat! Where the hell are you?!"

Chi heard Rou and Luceid coming, and almost stayed to meet them. After all, she bet they both liked turkey, and she could share! But as she thought about it... Rou would probably make her go back inside! She didn't wanna go back inside yet! She had barely started exploring...

So she darted off into the crowd, a flash of tail the only thing showing which direction she went.

Hijikata had been glancing elsewhere when Lucied suddenly began to bark, and the human turned his head in time to catch that said flash of tail, eyes widening in surprise before narrowing as he locked onto his target.

"Stop running off and get back here!" snarled out the boatswain as he started to break into a run with the puppy as well as they both started to chase after the kitten.

Chi heard them both calling for her, but instead of stopping-

"Chase! Chi wants to play chase!" She chirped, running even faster and laughing all the while. Running was a fun game!
