Gwendal had been attracted to the mess hall by the smell of the food. He'd honestly hadn't eaten in awhile and he really ought to. However, he want one for social gatherings but he supposed this time it couldn't be helped.

He avoided the alcohol for now and settled for tea, picking only a small portion of food for now and finding a relatively secluded spot to eat. Leaning against his hand, he pushed his braided hair behind his back and ate.

Gwendal felt insanely tired today but he honestly didn't want to go to bed. Not yet. He sipped his tea and ate idly, lost in thought.

"You look as enthusiastic about this little gathering as I am," Nikolas commented idly as he walked up to where Gwendal was sitting and took a seat himself. He had really only come down there to eat. He usually preferred the solitude of his room to company, but he'd expended a lot of energy forcibly removing pirates from the ship, and then aiding with the clean-up, and the easiest way to replenish it was with a good meal. There were, of course, faster ways of doing it, but those were decidedly less unpleasant.

Normally, he would have simply left the strategist to himself, but the man seemed pleasant enough, and more importantly, not prone to large amounts of chit-chat, which Nikolas could appreciate. "If I'm bothering you, I can move elsewhere."

He blinked when he heard the voice. He hadn't heard the other man approach at all. "Had I known it would be such a large affair, I would have gotten here sooner to avoid the crowd," Gwendal replied, shrugging lightly.

He shook his head, sipping his tea. "No, you're not. My mind was just elsewhere."

"That would have been a wise move," Nik agreed. He hadn't expected quite so many people, himself. But after all the chaos, he supposed everyone needed to unwind a bit.

"You look like you came out of the fight okay," he commented idly. He'd lost track of the people who'd been helping to repair that first hole in the ship when absolute chaos had broken out. He'd been hoping no one would get injured, but he hadn't had the time to check in on everyone yet.

Hibari headed back out into the mess hall his conversation with Shinji - the young pilot made it a point to avoid most of the people in the area, and settled in another one of the quieter corners in the room to eat his meal in peace.

Fixing the planes was in order, after a quick meal.

It was rather obvious from where the pilot sat that he had no desire to be disturbed, and Aizen, in his turn, had no wish to prod such a potentially useful man into action before his time. Still, the preceding conversation deserved a follow-up of some sort, so he proceeded in his unhurried way to where Hibari sat eating.

No preambles, only: "How are the planes?" A boatswain would be interested in asking, of course, and this pilot was such an interesting man in his own right.

At least he was straight to the point. Still, that he had come over at all was annoying enough.

"Slightly better."

After speaking with Aragaki herself, Tear had headed through the mess hall, searching for a more secluded area to eat. Although she wasn't disinclined to having her meal with other people besides her, she preferred a more sedated section, so she could have a moment to think.

However, seeing how the people had thronged into the area for the expansive meal, it appeared nearly impossible. Nearly, of course, was the operative word. After scanning the tables, she detected one that didn't seem too crowded. As she made her way over to it, she noticed two others situated besides the table close besides hers.

"Good evening," she impassively greeted, as she took her seat, "Hibari, Aizen."

Tear swiftly ran a mental check of the list of tasks left to carry out within the kitchen, all the while keeping an eye on the other hands in the kitchen. The sound of their footsteps filled the air with a soft rhythm, a blithe sort of tune filled with cheer and alacrity. Of course, their ease was to be expected - after such a precarious fight with the pirates, it was a relief to find an opportunity for repose. Although, for the quartermaster, this also meant having to return to the mystery that continued to perplex her mind. However, she wouldn't pass on seizing a few seconds of rest ( ... )

Shinjiro looked up as the woman approached him, raising a hand in what could be considered a wave... maybe. His own smile, which had been hovering around between a smirk and a tiny amused quirk for most of the dinner, also widened just a little. Normally all this social activity would have driven him to aggravation by now, but in fact the exact reverse was happening. All this life bustling around was cooling to his nerves.

"Grants..." he grunted, nodding to her. "You did fine. We got it done, that's what matters." He tilted his head towards Hikari and Toris. "Didn't know we had more cooks. Guess the Captain hired them while I was distracted." His smile turned down to a frown at the idea... too many damn hands.

Glancing over at where he indicated, she could see two brown-haired individuals - they were Hikari and Toris, as he had mentioned. She recalled seeing them around the Silvana a few weeks ago, and, even though she didn't speak with them nearly enough, she could tell the girl appeared rather good-natured, with the boy being slightly reticent. There was a possibility they could actually find a way to get along with Aragaki ( ... )

"Hmmm..." He didn't agree or disagree with Tear's assessment of the "younger" cooks, at least not verbally. He would wait until be could see them work without all the craziness of this big dinner. But... even though he wasn't automatically hating the two, he had his doubts. Alot of them. Visions of explosions and bloodshed danced in his head at the idea.

"Tch... Yeah A little. But I'm holding up."

The Dog was finding it quite difficult to find something to eat. Ironic, yes, but the sheer quantity of different smells, plus the fact that unless she got up on her back paws, it was hard to see over the tables, made it difficult to pick any one thing out of the array to sample.

She finally came to a decision, jumping up on her hind legs to reach for a piece of sliced ham on a dish in the middle of one of the tables. It was a bit of a stretch, but she thought she could -

- whoops, there went the potatoes. All over the tablecloth and the floor, and she'd smashed the dish, too. Dropping back onto all fours, she looked around guiltily to see if anyone had noticed.

OK SO LET'S ASSUME THIS HAPPENED AFTER THE CONVO WITH HIBARI AND TEAR IF THAT'S OK? <3 gazeintothesun March 7 2009, 13:58:16 UTC
Shortly after that profoundly fascinating conversation with Kyouya Hibari and Ms. Grants, during which he had taken the opportunity to enjoy what really was a very satisfying meal, Aizen excused himself and stood up. A few polite questions later, he made his way, glass in hand, to where Shinjiro was and sketched a polite nod to the cook.

"A wonderful meal," he said. "You're to be congratulated."

(OOC: I... left this vague because I'm not quite sure who he'd be with at this time -- also because the Hibari/Aizen/Tear convo hasn't finished yet -- but I would like to at least say hi to Shinjiro. To lay down groundwork for future interactions, that's all. I hope this is all right! ♥)

Shinjiro looked up at the man in glasses. He remembered vaguely that he was the a new crewman, but he had no idea of even his name. Not that he tried to hard to find these types of things out

"It's the job, s'all." he grunted, finishing off the cigarette he had bummed off Hibari.

"One well done, at least," he murmured, his gaze absently turning from the man to survey the mess hall. He let the pause linger for a few more moments before adding, "Ah, but I don't think we've met. Sousuke Aizen. Your new boatswain."
