von Karma was waiting on the deck, and, surprisingly, Minamimoto hadn't kept him waiting for too long. The grating was ready, and the rope was there; all he needed to do was tie Minamimoto to the bars-or, well, have one of the attending parties tie Minamimoto to the bars.

He did not acknowledge the former boatswain's arrival other than the most venomous glance possible-how dare the little bastard look so smug. Well, he'd have every trace of smugness whipped out of him before the day was out.

Minamimoto met eyes with vonKarma and had the audacity to grin. He grinned big and wide, showing off his sharp teeth. He spread his arms, playing up to any few spectators.

"Here I am. Ready for your addition Admiral?"

Hijikata didn't know just exactly why he was called up here, but he had a pretty bad feeling about this even as he was making his way up to the deck. The order had been sudden and unexpected, that was for sure. And to be honest... it worried him a little. He had conspired with Sho (only once, and that was by chance) in aiding the escape of Gumshoe who was safe hopefully. He dealt a dangerous bargain with the other boatswain, and more than his rank on the line - his very life hinged on it too.

Now it was here to haunt him again. Hijikata honestly didn't know what to do, really. But one thing was for sure - he had to follow orders; and these orders straight from the Admiral himself. He reached the deck, the expression on his face stoic as he walked up to von Karma and saluted him, trying his best to ignore the cocky other at the side.

"If I had my way, it'd be subtraction," snarled von Karma, resisting every urge to punch Minamimoto's face in. He turned to Hijikata with a frustrated sigh.

"Did you bring the cat-o'-nine tails?"

yes you can has spectators stoneface_vimes December 2 2008, 02:34:46 UTC
Yes, he had leave, and he could perfectly well have gone home...but going anywhere near Sybil when there was a party in the immediate future tended to result in all sorts of unpleasant things involving formal clothing.

So Vimes was sticking to the ship for now. And, in any case, he wasn't about to miss watching Minamimoto get his comeuppance. He leaned on the rail some distance down the deck, smoking a rather limp cigar and watching the proceedings with great interest and a faint smile.

Phoenix had intended to head down to Bellcius that morning. He had a lot of work to do, after all. But then he had heard the screams.

Immediately, he regretted not leaving sooner. This...this grim spectacle...it was terrible. He wouldn't wish this sort of punishment on anyone.

Was this what happened in the Ivonan army? What had Minamimoto done to deserve it? All these questions raced through Phoenix's head as he stared.

Kristoph had heard the news - he'd passed by Hijikata on the way when the boatswain was on his way to retrieve the cat-o'-nine tails. Personally he was looking rather forward to this - the former boatswain had been quite the annoyance, and was the loose factor in most of his plans. Though now after this, he would be out of the way and he could continue in his plans without having to worry about him now.

He suppressed a smirk that was beginning to form on his lips as he arrived at the scene, watching as the boatswain lashed out the blows to the screaming other. Ah, the joy of knowing that his plans would proceed. Fate was truly with him now.

Vimes and Kristoph weren't the only ones pleased to see Sho's punishment. Edgeworth was one of the first people to arrive at the spectacle, and he was all too eager to see him get what he deserved. Finally, that disgusting little rat would pay for the series of abuses and insults he brought to the ship. At first, Sho seemed utterly unaffected by the situation, and was just as stubbornly prideful as ever. Edgeworth, however, knew better. He waited patiently for his resolve to break down, and watched him cry out with a grim satisfaction ( ... )
