"Mmm, something smells good."

Penelo entered the galley, holding an empty coffee pot. "Oh, hello, Mr. Kambei. I see you're feeling better," she teased. "And, uhm, I really didn't know about the sleeping potion in the pain medicine. Honestly, I didn't."

Smirking faintly when he heard the young girl’s voice, Kambei glanced over at her with a smile. “Thank you. It has been years since I’ve actually prepared such a meal.”

Taking some of the stir-fry out and upon a few empty plates, he prepared a plate of food for Penelo to try. “Is that so?” Kambei said with an all-knowing smirk on his face but decided not to hound the little blond about the sleeping potion Madame Gkika used on him. “I can assure you that there is nothing in this food that would make you unnaturally tired.” The samurai said as he ushered Penelo her plate after putting a lump of the surprisingly sweet rice upon the stir-fry.

“You should thank Heihachi for the rice, he made it earlier to fill his hunger but made too much today.”

Penelo smiled and set down the coffee pot to try some of the stir fry. "Well, that's good. I don't want to fall asleep standing up." Taking a bite, she grinned even wider. "Oh, this is good! But I think I need soy sauce...." The blonde wandered around, checking cabinets for the desired sauce.

Kambei a faint chuckle came from him once he saw how wide Penelo’s smile became. It seems that his cooking isn’t so bad for a samurai. “There are plenty of sauces in the cabinets.” He responded once the petite girl started on her search. “I think our usual cook is the one who found all these elaborate spices and seasonings.”

Back at home, the best way to bond with others was over a meal. Link was hoping the same held true for the 4423. He had spoken to a few of the crew members over the journal, but nothing could beat spending time with actual people off the network. Walking by the kitchen, he could smell good food.

Curious, he decided to see what was being made.

One of the reasons that Kambei decided to take a step further and prepare a full meal, was so he could get to know his fellow crewmembers better. The old samurai honestly felt guilty for not knowing the names of everyone upon the 4423 and hoped to rectify that wrong. If they all where going to unite together as a crew for this shoddy ship, it would be wise for them to forge bonds with each other a good hearty meal. Much to his satisfaction, a boy whose face he did not remember, wandered into the kitchen.

Kambei nodded toward the other before he fixed another plate and offered it to the newcomer. “I take it you are new to our crew…” The samurai asked.

Oh! And here was the perfect chance to start making a few friends. This man was apparently the cook of the fabulous spread of food that sat on the tables. Was he one of the cooks? If not, then he should be.

"You are right," Link nodded. "My name is Link, I'm the new shipwright."

“Ah, yes. I remember speaking with you.” Kambei replied toward the young lad. “I am Kambei Shimada, one of the gunners here. I am glad we finally have a subtle shipwright upon our vessel.”

Amaterasu had seen the call to rice, and had been on her way to the kitchens as fast as she could manage in the narrow corridors of the ship. She had been lounging up on deck, playing with her journal, but food beat nap any day!

She didn't have a room, so she just picked up her journal in her teeth. Surely no one would think strangely of that?

When she reached the kitchen she placed the journal on the floor, sat back on her haunches, and barked.

(Rice now please!)

The sudden loud bark caught Kambei’s attention and he turned around to find himself staring down at a large white dog. “Hm?” Blinking his eyes for a moment in confusion, the samurai could have sworn that there where no pets allowed on this ship, no less a dog of this size. However, judging by the shiny white coat, this hound has to be someone’s pet.

“You are hungry, aren’t you?” Kambei said with a somber smile as he plucked out a juicy strip of finely cooked meat over to the dog.

(Ooooh~ Meat! Even better!) Ammy gave Kambei a big doggie grin, and with a delicateness that was almost strange for a animal her size reached out and took the meat with the very tip of her teeth, pulling it away before wolfing it down.

Once she finished that, she cocked her head to one side, watching the cooking intently.

“Well…” Kambei mumbled as he watched the white dog chow upon the meat. “If you enjoy my cooking, then I am sure everyone else shall.” The samurai said before returning to finish another batch of stir-fry for the others. There were all sorts of colorful and bright vegetables within the pan, simmering within the stew of the beef and chicken he chopped up and placed in there.

If someone were to look at Winry, they would have no idea that she had just recently fallen from tens of thousands of feet in the air and been forced to survive out in the Badlands in meager conditions.

She looked fine, great even and was in her typical bright demeanor. She sauntered into the kitchen, drawn in by the wonderful smells that were wafting from it and looked around.

"Oh, wow! Did you make this all yourself, Heihachi?" she asked. Boy did that look appetizing.

Hearing Winry's voice, a faint laugh came from him for she gave praise rightfully for the bountiful rice but seemed to have forgotten the name of the one who is making a meal out of this rice. "He did not do all of this on his own." Kambei replied with a bit of mirth in his tone, glad to see that the first mate is alive and well.

Ooh! It had seemed a lot for one person. She looked over at the food. It was rare that they had a full cooked meal on board. With their lack of real cooks most people just made what they could for themselves out of the rations they had. Winry rarely ever had the time to make herself something proper so it was nice to see this all laid out.

"It looks great, Kambei!" she said clasping her hands, "how did you learn to cook so well?"

"A past life, I suppose." Kambei replied briefly. “A talent I am thankful I still posses for a man can not live on honor and the sword alone.” It was almost refreshing for him to take a minute out of his day and prepare such a meal for the crew, a good deed that in the end soothed his worried mind. The samurai was still on edge about the condition of the ship and the condition of the crew’s low moral. Kambei simply wished that everyone would continue to stand together even in the middle of such hard times, especially after surviving the harsh lands of the desert frontier.

"Relax, eat." The samurai whispered to Winry a she gestured his hand toward a seat near the table.

Knuckles had to admit, seeing Kambei cook was a little strange, especially since it had seemed to interfere with his initial image of being a serious fighter-type. He guessed that it was nice to see a guy like Kambei with a soft spot.

Knuckles had originally came down after seeing the message involving rice, and for Knuckles, this was always a good thing. However, the stir fry had come as a surprise and was more than welcome as far as Knuckles was concerned.

"Kambei," Knuckles began. "I hope you're sharing all that!"

Chuckling lightly when he heard the familiar voice, more than glad that more crewmembers of the 4423 where joining here for a good lunch. Perhaps Heihachi's idea of making too much rice was a blessing in disguise to try to unite the crew together after such rough times.

"Do not worry; there is enough to go around." The old samurai said as he fixed the strong navigator a plate of stir-fry mixed in with the white rice, hoping that he would appreciate the meal.

“I do hope your wounds have healed since we last spoke, Knuckles.” Kambei stated for her remembered that the demi-human was covered in all sorts of gashes and cuts thanks to their defying deeds in the cargo hold. “You seem well, friend.”

The rice and stir-fry looked hot and steamy and very delicious. Though, Knuckles didn't want to admit that he honestly liked his food raw. He held the plate firmly with two hands and smirked, thankful that someone was giving him a generous meal.

Knuckles continued to smirk, even as Kambei reminded him of the difficult time he had back in the cargo hold. He thought of it as nothing. "Those? I took care of it well enough. I think I'll be fine."

All around his body, Knuckles had some healing cuts and bruises. From the look of things, he probably had treated himself, though it was definitely not seen by a professional. Knuckles himself was not really a doctor himself, so any wounds he had were probably taken care of minimally at best. Though, the navigator himself seemed to be up and running well enough.
