It's the 25th of May, but since I'll be staying in all day revising maths, there won't be much point in walking around with a towel. (If I were to venture outside, though, it might actually be a good idea to bring one, considering the look of impending weather.)

I could also go around with a sprig of lilac to commemorate the Glorious People's Read more... )

I haven't seen anyone with a towel today, or a lilac. I have seen lilacs on trees, lots of them, but not someone wearing them.

I like the left icon best, it has much lilac in it :)

Maybe all the trees are commemorating the Glorious 25th of May? :)

The one I'm using for this comment? Yes, after sleeping on the matter overnight, I found that one to be my favourite, too. Partly because of the composition, and partly because it looks more three-dimensional, and also because the blood looks better. :) BLOOD AND GORE.

I like the fourth one best. I think it emphasizes more the reality of the uprising, whereas most lilac icons I've seen suggest more a later "memorial"/romanticasion* of the events. The others aren't as clear on the "a lone dropped lilac on blod spattered cobblestones"-theme, even if they almost are the same picture.

*: is that even a word?

If you hadn't posted this I would completely have forgotten it was the 25th today. The actual dates disappear in a blur and suddenly I got this anxiety over it almost being June already. Too many things to do and too little time, as usual.

I think you mean "romanticization"? (it's still a mouthful.) I wanted them to be more disturbing than romanticized. The last one is very clear, it tells the story and does it in a pretty realistic manner. Not as decoratively, though. :) But I'm glad you liked it.

The leftmost one is actually a closeup of that one, but the middle one(s) is from a different capture (on the big flagstones outside the Cathedral, actually).

(I wonder if there is a Discworld Icon community?)

i like the last one the best too. the lilac works a lot better when it doesn't take up the full frame

Yes -- I realized that you either have to get the whole sprig in the picture, or do such a big closeup that you can see the individual blossoms, or it won't be identifiable as a lilac. But it looks more forlorn when you can see the single sprig just lying there.

I'm beginning to warm to the last one myself. Maybe I should change my userpic to that one? I'm so impressionable, haha. :)

I suppose the solution is a towel with a lilac motif. :)

It is a good thing Dead Duck Day is not on the same day as well, or we would have to carry a dead duck wrapped in a towel with a lilac motive.

I had no idea there was an actual dead duck day. It was, however, exactly this dead duck which came to mind when you mentioned it.
